YTD Raised: £950.00The Albany is an arts centre based in the heart of Deptford with a history embedded in the local community stretching back to the nineteenth century, and driven by the cultural diversity and creative mix of South East London. The venue has a 500 capacity ‘big top inspired’ main house, which has been described as ‘a mini Roundhouse’, as well as two smaller studio spaces, 26 resident companies housed in offices throughout the building, a café and a large garden. The diverse creative programme of events challenges new art forms, audience dynamics and social relevance. Work includes theatre, music, comedy, spoken word, circus and our acclaimed families programme. As a venue we work with over 200 community groups per year and are the leading arts venue in South East London.

YTD Raised: £927.50Pro Bono Economics matches volunteer professional economists with charities, providing free help to measure performance and understand charity impact and value. Our aims are: PBE was set up in 2009 by Martin Brookes, Director of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, and Andy Haldane, an Executive Director at the Bank of England, when they identified an opportunity for economists to help charities. The Director, Sue Holloway, is a former government economist and has been Director of the charity since September 2010. A small core team of three staff manage projects and support the relationship between the charity and the volunteers. They are funded by grants from trusts and foundations, ad hoc donations from generous individuals and regular giving by individual economists. To date we have received applications from over 130 charities from all over the UK. We have had exploratory conversations with some 60 more, which in themselves have, we are told, been extremely helpful to the charities. Over 270 economists have registered with us and we have already used more than 130 of them on projects. About 35 projects have been completed or are in the final stages. These are for charities ranging from the very small (e.g. Fair Pensions and Foundation Training Company) to the very large (Barnardo’s). Projects include advice on collection of the data required to do economic analysis in the future, and social cost benefit analyses of particular programmes. All the analysis is peer reviewed by experts and published on the PBE website. At any point in time the central team is managing around 40 projects at various stages in the process. Our approach is to be as helpful as possible while maintaining high standards of rigour, transparency and consistency. Our independence and the quality of our volunteers makes the analysis we produce credible with charities and funders alike. We are currently working on two initiatives: Mozumuhle Primary School is based in Diepsloot, South Africa. We are fundraising for their need of many basic requirements and the only way we can break the poverty cycle is to ensure that people are able to get a decent basic education. It is near impossible to do this if you are cold, hungry and do not have functioning classrooms. We recognize that people want to help but are not always willing or able to take the next step and through our unique network we hope to make it easier for people to do exactly that. Ubunye means “the Power of Unity”. We at Ubunye believe that any challenge can be overcome if we stand together, using our diversified background and expertise to make a difference. Rooting-for-Rhino is an educational and fund raising project focussed on the global escalating rhino poaching crisis. Between 2008 and 2013 we have lost more than 2600 rhino - that's a 930 percent increase! Founded in South Africa, we now operate in the UK with our partner, Ubunye-Unity Trust. Together we aim to enhance children's knowledge of the rhino and bring a creative element to learning about conservation of these magnificent creatures and their natural habitat. People often ask, “What can I do to help?” We believe that we have an answer to this question as Rooting-for-Rhino provides a platform for everyone to get involved. We invite individuals to engage schools and groups around the world to show their support by standing in unity against poaching in the shape of a “Human Rhino Formation” and to raise funds. In the past year, we have reached about 16,500 children in 46 schools in South Africa, Holland, USA, Malaysia and Canada. Together these wonderful schools have raised in excess of ZAR 105,000.00 for our carefully chosen beneficiaries Chipembere Rhino Foundation, Wilderness Forever Wild’s Rhino Initiative, Bongi’s Quest by African Educational Stories. YTD Raised: £914.00A Brief History The Charter 600 Charity was set up by the Mercers’ Company in 1994 to commemorate the 600th anniversaries of both the Company’s first Charter in 1394 and the first Mastership of Richard Whittington in 1395, and to provide an opportunity for today’s membership to make direct contributions to the charitable giving of the Company. The Aim of the Charity The aim of the Charter 600 Charity is to give grants primarily to small, community based organisations, where a small amount of money will make a big difference. The amount available for grants each year is fairly modest and this is reflected in the average grant size (£500-£1,500). Below are some examples of the organisations and projects which the Charter 600 Charity has supported recently. - Emma’s Bubble Trust - A small local charity in Surrey which was set up in memory of Emma Brandon, who died of cancer at just 16 years old. The Charity raises money to help teenage cancer patients. The Charter 600 Charity gave a grant to support the work of the Trust. - Ferrier’s Barn - A day care centre for young disabled people in Suffolk. The Charter 600 Charity gave a grant to fund a range of arts and crafts activities at the centre. - Shirts for Soldiers - An enterprise which provides bespoke shirts free of charge to Soldiers recovering at Headley Court, as a token of gratitude for their courage and sacrifice. The Charter 600 Charity gave a grant in support of this work. - Martha Trust Hereford - The Charity provides lifelong and respite care for young people with profound intellectual and physical disabilities. The Charter 600 Charity gave a grant to fund musical instruments for the therapy department. - Mangalakara Education Trust - Responsible for the Mangalakara Children's Home and Education Centre in India, the Trust provides food, shelter and clothing to orphaned and ill-treated children completely free of charge. The Charter 600 Charity gave a grant to help provide food for the children.
