The Holburne Museum (UK, 310288) Browse events

YTD Raised: £1,310.00

The Holburne Museum in Bath is one of the UK’s best-loved small museums and has ambitions to become one of Europe’s outstanding independent art museums.   Would you like to help us transform the Holburne Museum into Bath’s art museum – for everyone? We are asking everyone to take part in the Holburne Challenge with the aim of raising £300,000 towards the final phase of our development project. The development, which includes restoration of our Grade I listed eighteenth-century home and the construction of a spectacular modern extension, will allow us to welcome and look after all our visitors properly. Our new spaces will transform what we can do from exhibitions to teaching and allow us to reveal our collection in all its glory. A new garden café will open onto the park in which the museum sits. We will be opening our doors to the renewed museum in May 2011 when for the first time the Holburne will be free to enter and fully accessible to all. With your support we can make sure that we continue our work within the community and provide the opportunity for everyone to access our collection, fantastic art exhibitions and events well into the future. The Holburne is more than a collection of paintings and decorative art objects; it is a community of people and we’d love you to be part of it.

The Lisa May Foundation (UK, 1108763) Browse events

YTD Raised: £1,201.00

Helping people in Surrey Heath and across the globe. The Lisa May Foundation supports selected local charities in Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, at the same time raising funds for victims of natural disaster across the world. The charity was founded after Surrey Heath Councillor John May lost his daughter Lisa to the tsunami that devastated Thailand on Boxing Day 2004. Surrey Heath Councillor and successful businessman John May raised his five adored children to live life to the full. When one of his daughters announced her intention to marry in Thailand, John and his youngest daughter Lisa accompanied her to celebrate the special event. After the wedding, Lisa decided to extend her stay on the island of Phi Phi and, tragically, became one of the thousands of victims who lost their lives in the tsunami that devastated Thailand on Boxing Day 2004. In response to their sense of deep personal loss, the May family decided to celebrate Lisa’s memory by forming the Lisa May Foundation, to raise money to help victims of natural disasters. The May family motto is Fortitudo, Amicitia et Famila which translated means, Courage, Friendship and Family. In 2010, as Mayor of Surrey Heath, John saw that local charities had a huge need for support and decided to re-launch the Foundation as an umbrella organisation helping specific local charities, as well as continuing to raise funds for victims of natural disaster.
