When you call 111 for an ambulance in the Greater Wellington and Wairarapa region, the ambulance service that responds to your emergency call is Wellington Free Ambulance. We are the only ambulance service in New Zealand that is free to patients. It costs around $21 million every year to run Wellington Free. The government provides $17 million and we fundraise the remaining $4 million. This year we especially need to fund six new ambulances for the region, each costing $258,000.
