Motor Neurone Disease (also called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis – ALS) is a neurological condition that does not discriminate, striking people of all ages. There is currently no treatment or cure. The damage caused by MND is progressive so it gets worse over time. On average one person dies every four days from MND in Ireland and the majority of people die within 1,000 days of being diagnosed. The IMNDA cannot slow the progression of MND or change the outcome but we can alleviate the feelings of isolation and improve quality of life. We strive to ensure that each individual receives the care and support they require enabling them to live as active independent citizens in their own homes for as long as possible. Our services include home visits by our two MND Nurses, financial assistance towards home care, provision of specialised medical equipment, funding counselling and funding towards MND Research.

YTD Raised: €1,750.00

Scarcely a family in Ireland has not been touched in some way by cancer. While we are all too aware of the heavy burden which this disease places on patients and their loved ones, it is important to realise that there has been a tremendous amount of good news in recent years in the area of cancer treatment research. The Cancer Clinical Research Trust (CCRT) is devoted to furthering the development of new treatments for cancer, and supports research both in the lab, and at the cancer patient’s bed-side, an integrated programme of investigation. In addition to the traditional cancer treatments of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, important treatments which have cured many patients and prolonged many lives, we now have a revolutionary new field of “targeted treatments”. These treatments are akin to “smart bombs” which are specifically designed to focus on potential weak spots in the cancer cells make-up. More importantly, these treatments are generally associated with much less severe side-effects than are seen with other forms of therapy.
