Sharing the Sound of Ireland The unique and haunting sound of Uilleann Pipes was first heard in Ireland almost 300 years ago. Before the Great Irish Famine of 1845 it is said that there was an uilleann piper in every townland in the country. The post-famine era, however, and early part of the 1900s saw a drastic decline. When Na Píobairí Uilleann (The Society of UilleannPipers) was formed to preserve the instrument there were less than 100 uilleann pipers left in the world.Since our foundation in 1968 uilleann piping has experienced an extraordinary renaissance - the art form has now developed into a major world music genre, with thousands of players globally. Consequently, demand for instruments and instruction continues to grow. Na Píobairí Uilleann delivers a wide range of services from our painstakingly restored 1740s building at number 15 on Dublin’s historic Henrietta Street. These services include providing access to instruments, education, performances and preservation. Now we have a unique opportunity to support evergrowing, worldwide demand for services by developing the award-winning design for an International Uilleann Piping Visitor Centre Theatre on adjacent site of no. 16. This award-winning design re-instates the original Georgian streetscape, creating an International Uilleann Piping Centre, Theatre, Training Facility and Archive showcasing this truly unique sound of Ireland – the Uilleann Pipes.Reels on Wheels - Let's Keep the Wheels Turning !! Childaid is a charity for CHILDREN. We fund and support projects on the ground in Africa that improve the living conditions and welfare of disadvantaged children, with particular emphasis on education. We believe that the long term solution to the African problem lyes in empowering future generations to make their own decisions, and work closely with children who reside in slum areas. To date we have given thousands of children access to education, and so helped raise their expectations of life. We raise funds by organising group treks to Kilimanjaro, Everest and other attractive destinations, ensuring that trekkers are given a first hand experience of the projects their funding assists. Our trips therefore have a unique mix of hands on experience, mountains, trekking, and that great Irish tradition "plenty of Craic" We run trips to Mount Kenya (Mar), Kilimanjaro (Aug), and Everest Base Camp (Oct/Nov) each year. Details of these treks can be viewed on our website, in the event listings section of this site, or by contacting our office on 021 4222985

“Live 95FM’s – 95 Stop Tour” is an annual charity event that takes place in Limerick every September. It is organised by Limericks Live 95FM and its aim is to raise much need funds for Limerick Kids. The main beneficiaries are Cari and The Childrens Ark at the Mid Western Regional Hospital. Both get 50% each of all money raised. Your money to date, has bought vital medical equipment that was so badly needed for The Ark Unit, and has paid for many precious, important hours of therapy for abused kids, amongst other things. We know times are financially difficult for people at the moment. But we believe we need to continue to try and help these kids in whatever way we can. Regardless of times been difficult, children continue to get sick, children continue to unfortunately get abused, and budgets and funds for these great organisations and charities tend to be cut more and more. All we ask is, you please try and give whatever you can afford, no matter how little that may seem. It all adds up in the end and really makes a big difference. Thank you. Please give what you can today, and stay listening to Limericks Live 95FM for more on “The 95 Stop Tour”.
