Yopey (UK, 1145573) Browse events

YTD Raised: £155.00

YOPEY (pronounced yop-pea) runs campaigns to combat the bad press inflicted on young people by revealing, recognising and rewarding young unsung heroes and setting them up as positive role models for other young people to copy. We are creating tomorrow’s great citizens today. In our first 10 years (2005-2014) we held campaigns in 12 English counties – Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk,  Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Suffolk and North, South and West Yorkshire plus the whole of Scotland, In 2014 we held our first YOPEY in Greater London. Our ultimate aim is to hold campaigns across the whole of the UK. At the end of each campaign we hold an awards ceremonies at which the very best young citizens are giving cash awards to invest in their community projects. They received YOPEYs – ‘Oscars’ for young people who give to others. In our first 10 years we awarded young people about £150,000. We are also trialing befriending schemes where we are linking schools with care homes. The young volunteers are given training to relate to elderly people with dementia. YOPEY has mainly been supported by companies as part of their corporate social responsibility, but this VirginMoneyGiving page has been set up to enable the contestants in Miss Norwich and Miss Ipswich, and Mr Norwich and Mr Ipswich, to fundraise for YOPEY as part of their bids to represent their county town in the annual Miss England contest.. But anyone is welcome to fundraise for YOPEY using VirginMoneyGiving as a way to authenticate what you are doing and ensure your sponsors’ money reaches this charity, without any commission being taken by VirginMoneyGiving.
