Approximately 30% of primary schools in Zambia are under-resourced community schools. They normally cater for the most vulnerable - orphans and poor children. Teachers in these schools are untrained volunteers who live in the local community. Training these teachers is important because ‘education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world’ (Nelson Mandela). After 5 years of delivering basic training programmes to over 120 community school teachers in Lusaka, we are now fundraising to establish a multi-purpose Library/Resource Centre. It will be a teacher training venue that gives community school teachers access to a wide range of resources such as computers, textbooks, teaching materials and story books to use in their primary schools. It will also be a library for local children to experience the joy of reading stories and having fun with toys, so they learn through play. Our Library/Resource Centre will allow us to expand our support for dedicated untrained volunteer teachers in community schools in Zambia.

British Inspiration Trust (UK, 1137795) Browse events

YTD Raised: £388.90

BRIT’s Mission is to create a social investment legacy by building a BRIT Centre of Inspiration for charities to refer their young people facing their darkest times.  We aspire to support young people post-trauma by reigniting self-belief, self-confidence and self-worth on residential themed courses.  On completion of the course we will ensure that every young person is linked to educational facilities or charity programmes within their home community.  BRIT will achieve this by fusing together partner charities, professional counselling and psychotherapy support, the nation’s inspirational figures and young people who have traversed their darkest times, to educate, enthuse and empower them.  We do not actively ask the public to donate to BRIT as we are asking businesses to fund the building of the BRIT Centre of Inspiration. Should you wish to support us, these donations will go towards our minimal running costs and ensure we continue to operate. Phil Packer MBE launched the British Inspiration Trust on the 24th January 2011 and has kept to his principles: • Plan to build a Centre of Inspiration where charities can send young people facing their darkest times to regain their self-belief• Partner with charities and ask for advice – he now has over 50 Charity CEOs as Advisors who have justified the need for the BRIT Centre• Ask high profile inspirational figures to gift 24hrs to spend with young people at the BRIT Centre – Phil has 50 BRIT Mentors so far• Run BRIT with minimal overheads - everything to operate BRIT has been gifted.• Ensure BRIT encompasses all disabilities, medical conditions, injury, young carers and the wounded. On the 24th January 2012, to raise awareness of BRIT and to show his commitment to young people post-trauma, Phil started a 2012 mile walk throughout every county of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. On the 18th December 2012, with a spinal cord injury, Phil will have completed the equivalent of 310 marathon distances in 332 days.
