Meals and More (UK, 1179092) Browse events

YTD Raised: £41,696.09

Meals & More was set up to put an end to holiday hunger and provide holiday provision for thousands of the UK's poorest and most vulnerable children. When the school holidays arrive, it should signal weeks of fun for children, but the sad reality is that thousands of families across the UK will struggle to put food on the table. We believe that no child should go hungry, even when there is no structured support outside of the school term for the millions of children who receive free school meals. That’s why we started Meals & More, to put an end to holiday hunger and make sure that children don’t suffer six weeks of isolation, without a decent meal. We provide support for holiday clubs across the UK where children can enjoy a healthy, hot meal, as well as participating in activities that help avoid the stigma of poverty and the isolation that often follows.

FoodCycle (UK, 1134423) Browse events

YTD Raised: £40,787.05

FoodCycle builds communities by combining volunteers, surplus food and spare kitchen spaces to create nutritious meals for people at risk from food poverty and social isolation. Launched in May 2009, we now have 15 projects cooking across the country. Over 4 million people are affected by food poverty in the UK, yet we throw away millions of tonnes of perfectly edible food. To us at FoodCycle this just doesn't make sense, so our teams of amazing volunteers are doing something about it. Since 2009 we've served over 40,000 nutritious three-course meals, created out of 35,000kg of reclaimed surplus by our network of over 1000 volunteers. But there's much more we can do, and we need your help. If you can help, please donate using the right-hand sidebar. You can make a one-off donation, fundraise for us by running a marathon or hosting a dinner, or make a regular monthly donation. Thank you for your support! If you'd like to find out more about our work, please visit our website, call us on 020 7729 2775, email us on [email protected] or follow us on twitter @foodcycle. By sending skilled professionals and promising young people to these areas we deliver a clear message: "We have not forgotten you, we are here to give a helping hand." Our pilot project began in Kashmir, after the 2005 earthquake which took over 100,000 lives. Our immediate response ensured temporary school facilities and a medical centre which serves a population of over 12,000 people who would otherwise have no access to medicine. When donating to the AHS Foundation, you can be sure your money is spent intelligently and carefully. Our strength is in our size: a small devoted team of volunteers who have extensive fieldwork experience; your money is not wasted on expensive executive salaries, with the AHS Foundation every penny goes further.
