In many countries in Africa, there is still no compulsory education, particularly for nursery or secondary-aged children. We help to provide affordable schooling for children who would otherwise be deprived - for example, those in remote or poverty-stricken areas. So far, we have built ten schools and we hope in the next 18 months to build three more. With your help, we can make this happen...

(UK, 268572) Browse eventsThe TGRF charity enables us to take the Great Ormond Street Renal Transplant Patients to the Transplant Games each year, and provide them with tracksuits and t-shirts to compete in, and allows us to subsidise the cost for each family wishing to attend. The Transplant Games started back in 1978. Approximately 100 participants took part in the first Games in a one day event. Over the past 20 years, the British Transplant Games has grown to a four day annual event for over 500 competitors and nearly 1000 supporters. The British Transplant Games incorporates a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities for all age groups, so it is in effect their own mini Olympics, and is open to any child or adult that has had an organ transplant. The aim of The Games is to encourage transplant patients to regain fitness and to promote friendship and co-operation between individuals concerned with transplantation, whilst increasing public awareness of the value of organ donation. Some of the children and adults competing, go on to win medals, others come along to take part, renew friendships, do their sport at their own pace and generally enjoy a few days of fun and sharing amongst so many who had debilitating illnesses but who are now fit and well as a result of a successful transplant. The children and the parents all enjoy the chance to get together, as they can all share similar experiences that not many people have ever gone through. The TGRF charity not only enables us to help the families attend the British Transplant Games, but also other events such as skiing at the Winter Transplant Games, the sports hall event which is held in the spring and the World Transplant Games which is held every other year. Any money raised for the TGRF makes such a huge difference, as it is such a small charity. The team that manage the TGRF do so on a voluntary basis, so all of the money raised goes directly to the patients and their families.
