The Scoliosis Association (UK) is the only independent support group for people affected by scoliosis in the UK. Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, in which the spinal column can also twist, pulling the ribcage out of position. Although many people have not heard of the condition it is surprisingly common, with three to four children per 1000 needing specialist supervision. Scoliosis has a huge impact physically and psychologically and it is very important the patient be seen by a specialist, a list of which SAUK maintains and provides to users of our Helpline. SAUK receives no government funding and exists to provide information, support, put people affected by scoliosis in touch with each other, and raise awareness of the condition.
