***Helping Families, Adults and Children in CRISIS across Bournemouth***Bournemouth Foodbank was established in 2007, to provide clients with 3 days emergency food.Clients are referred to us by local support agencies, such as Citizen's Advice, Social Services and the Job Centre; in total we work with over 100 Agencies!Typically, clients are entitled to 3 parcels in a 6 month period. We distribute over 1 tonne of food a week in Bournemouth, and with that great work comes a financial cost. Our costs are kept to a minimum, and where possible we get food donated and we run on the kinda and amazing work that volunteers do.However, in order to meet the needs of those in our town and run the operation, we have to rent a warehouse, and employ 2 part-time members of staff (who usually end up working full time hours!). The Reader Organisation works to bring about social change by sharing great literature, making it possible for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to engage with reading, improve wellbeing and build community. Through their ‘Get Into Reading’ project, where prose and poetry are read aloud in groups that meet each week, The Reader Organisation brings the pleasure of great literature to people of all ages across the UK. They have found that shared reading provides an appealing and holistic service to those most in need - the elderly, people suffering from mental ill-health, offenders, looked-after children - enabling them to develop the emotional apparatus to improve their personal happiness and social functioning. The Reader Organisation is an independent national charity. Its head office is in Liverpool and they have projects running across the North West, North East, London, the South West, Scotland and North Wales. They work with local health, education and social care authorities, as well as library services, community organisations, care home providers and the criminal justice sector to deliver over 200,000 hours of reading each year. Their Read to Lead training course has also enabled over 700 people (from nurses and librarians, to fire fighters and probation officers) to deliver shared reading groups in their part of the country.

Future Pillars Zambia supports over 1,000 vulnerable children in Kabwe in central Zambia through an empowerment programme of feeding, education and life skills training. Future Pillars Zambia was set up in June 2017 picking up the valuable work started by the charity CONTESA to support AIDS orphans in Zambia.  This ran very successfully, providing food, education and skills training over 12 years to over 10,000 orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia through a variety of projects.  FPZ are continuing to support the existing programmes at Kabwe where over 1,000 children and young people a day are receiving food, education and skills training to move from poverty to a better and sustainable future for themselves and their families.  The children are there, the need is great, how can we let them down?
