Young people are linked with volunteer mentors with whom they meet weekly over the course of a year, or longer - developing supportive undivided 1:1 "islands of space and time" attention to increase their confidence and self-esteem, participate in worthwhile recreational activities and move forward in their lives. Many of the children have sadly experienced vulnerability or disadvantage due to domestic violence, physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse, exposure to alcohol and drug abuse, bullying, anger, obesity as well as sudden bereavement, all of which result in isolation, low self-esteem and lack of confidence.
