(UK, 1098659) Browse eventsBirmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust serves a culturally and socially diverse population of 1.2 Million people, some of whom live in areas of high deprivation, low income and unemployment. Each year over 50,000 people are seen by our services, from not only the Midlands area but also nationally for some of our more specialist services. In any given year 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem and although the majority will be seen in the local community, the more serious long term cases are referred to the Trust. We operate from 60 sites throughout the Birmingham and Solihull areas to provide a wide range of inpatient, community and specialist mental health services for service users of all ages. From young people aged over 16, right through to providing mental health care and treatment for older adults. Together, these services include elements of rehabilitation, crisis and home treatment, assertive outreach, early intervention, addictions, day services and mental health wellbeing. Whilst our work covers many areas and can often be complex, our aim is simple ‘Improving Mental Health Wellbeing’. The Trusts charitable fund ‘Caring Hands’ directly raises money for the service users, carers and staff of the Trust. Helping to provide the extras that normal NHS funding does not provide, such as equipment, specialised furniture, research and service users events. Your support of our fundraisers is greatly appreciated as the money they raise will significantly improve the experience of the people who use our services.

(UK, 205785) Browse eventsThe work of the Charity is nationwide. Its role is unique in embracing every sector of the Trade: manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers. By means of regular financial support or one-off grants it assists both current and retired Trade employees or their spouses who live anywhere in the United Kingdom and who find themselves in need because of poverty or sickness. Many grantees have given a lifetime’s service to the Trade; others have tragically been denied that opportunity having been struck down with illness or disability at relatively young ages. The many appeals received by the Charity for special assistance often come via other charitable organisations or from social services departments unable to help through the benefits system. Many of the cases dealt with are deeply distressing and it is a fallacy that examples of real poverty can no longer be found. Contrary to the popular misconception the State does not always provide and those who have fallen upon hard times through no fault of their own have to turn to the Charity to help make their lives a little more pleasant especially in old age.

(UK, 1070826) Browse eventsWherever the Need is the only UK charity that puts sanitation first. Clean water is also vitally important to help save lives, but without efective sanitation in place, water supplies continue to become contaminated. Its not just us that says this - research has shown that the installation of ‘improved sanitation’ shows a reduction in illness by an average of 32%, whereas an improved water supply only does so by 6%. We provide ecologically sustainable composting toilets which are long-lasting, and provide valuable fertiliser which can be used on crops. With proper sanitation in place, we then make sure there is clean drinking water available. With both sanitation and water in place, peoples health vastly improves, enabling them to maintain employment and stay in education. Our last step is to create livelihood programmes where they are needed, so people have the opportunity for sustained employment. Good health and an income leads to a route out of poverty, and that is what we are all about!
