Oscar’s Star was created by Mark and Charlene Sallis following the stillbirth of their son, Oscar, on 20th September 2021. Oscar was the fourth child to Mark and Charlene and both they and their children, Evie, Jacob and Isla, were left devastated at losing him. Mark and Charlene were overwhelmed by the support they were given by the Women’s Centre at Gloucester Royal Hospital, who provided them and the children with memory boxes containing keepsakes to create memories of Oscar. They were given the use of a ‘cooling cot’, which enabled them to keep Oscar with them to not only grieve but to continue to hold and cuddle Oscar before having to say goodbye. Of course, this all comes at a price, which isn’t monetary, but donated by other parents who have suffered the bereavement of a child. The purpose of Oscar’s Star is to create memory boxes for bereaved parents & siblings who have suffered a miscarriage, stillbirth or other neonatal death and cooling cots to the NHS for parents to spend precious moments with their baby at one of the most distressing times of a parents life.
