ASAP wants different communities from.different backgrounds to meet. We believe this is particularly important for our young adults. Our aim is achieved by putting on community projects. Typically our project last for 3 or 4 months. Practices happen within communities and meets happen between participating communities. We like projects that are low risk, have a low learning curve and are non gender/age related. Ideal projects are activities like rounders, frisbee, pickelball and running. Let's get together. Let's make our communities great places to be!

Hinde Street Methodist Church (UK, 1134023) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Hinde Street Church, in the heart of Marylebone and central London, maintains a strong tradition of thoughtful Christian preaching, radical theology and a passion for social justice. Methodists have been meeting to worship on this site and serve the local community for more than 200 years. Our three different Sunday services draw people from nearby and across London - and every week visitors to London share worship with us, admiring the beautiful interior of our 1887 listed chapel. Besides our services, we open our doors for hire, for weddings and events, yes, but also providing reduced rates to 12-step groups and registered charities. Everyone is welcome to attend our public lecture series on spirituality in today’s society, the Tuesday lunchtime meditations, our group for young adults, and our informative, social tea-time talks on Thursdays. We support the social work of the West London Mission, with volunteers welcoming the homeless to our hall on Wednesday evenings for food and chats. During four months over winter we are part of the Westminster churches’ winter night shelter program, when volunteers welcome a group of 15 people experiencing homelessness, providing dinner and a warm place to sleep, while the West London Day Centre works to ensure they are registered for benefits, helped to find work, and supported in looking for local housing. In this and in many other ways we seek to serve the inner-city community around us. We welcome donations from people anywhere who wish to support the life and work of our church. Our regular running costs are £5,600 per week. We are also running campaigns to replace our boiler, and to repair our historic pipe organ (which is available to book, if you want to play!). Can you help?

The Ben Clark Foundation (UK, XT5180) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Ben Clark was born on Thursday 15th September 1977. A man with great passion and integrity, he lived his short life to the full. Never doing anything half heartedly he managed to cram a lot in. He is definitely one in 6.7 billion. Ben was involved in many things, he had a real thirst for life and never sat still for all that long! He has been an active participant in many activities including climbing, ju-jitsu, off-roading, hockey, golf, biking, snorkeling, kiting and scuba diving to name but a few. Ben was also a leader for the Scouts at Stormont Presbyterian. Ben died as a result of a road traffic accident on Sunday 17th June 2007. Hopefully this charity and the work that we do will be a lasting legacy of the most amazing man anyone could have ever met. The aims of The Ben Clark Foundation will be to promote the relief of poverty and the advancement of education and medical welfare of needy people around the world. We will provide a platform to promote and support charitable matters that reflect the memory and interests of Ben Clark and we will also support other charities, both local and international, which fulfil the criteria of the Ben Clark Foundation. To this end, to continue to support Ben’s interests and ideals, we will be helping to raise funds for both a charity carrying out work locally and a charity called Moving Mountains. Ben had spent some time in Kenya in 1996, this was his first real expedition where he was part of a joint project between the Scouts and UNICEF to lay water mains and help to support and look after homeless kids from Nairobi. Ben has been in a lot of different places climbing a lot of different mountains but Kenya had a great impact on him. Through Moving Mountains we will be endeavouring to support work there.

Friends Of Treatment Action Campaign (UK, 1105963) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Nearly six million people in South Africa live with the HIV virus. But this need not be the disaster for them, their loved ones and their communities, that was once feared. If people with HIV start on treatment - anti-retroviral therapy (ART) - early enough, they may have many many years of quality life, and there is only a marginal chance that they will infect anyone else in any way. So, it is possible to bring an end to HIV and AIDS in our generation. The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) came to prominence ten years ago when it fought the disastrous policies of President Mbeki who denied the need for ART. It was literally fighting for the lives of its thousands of members who lived with HIV. It won. Now the South African government promotes the active roll-out of ART to all who need it. Yet, much remains to be done - the public health service is struggling, and constantly needs to be challenged to deliver decent services for all in need; whilst people are still slow to come forward for a HIV test, to seek ART, and to take other measures that could beat AIDS. TAC, with members across South Africa, many living with HIV, is still at the forefront of ensuring that AIDS will be beaten. It provides information and mobilizes people to take action - to do what they need to do for their health, and to challenge government to see through its obligations. From the UK, the charity Friends of TAC (FoTAC) provides funds and other support to TAC in this still vital work.
