The object of the Cardiac Support Group (Nottingham) is to assist the morale of both patients and their families by providing support, guidance and advice at monthly meetings and social events so that together they can face the future with confidence. The most disturbing aspect of heart disease is the uncertainty regarding symptoms and worry as to the future. The greatest benefit to be obtained is to meet other people, apparently fit and leading a relatively full life, and to find that they have experienced similar problems. Some of our members feel that being involved with a Support Group has been the biggest single step to psychological recovery. We also support hospital cardiac rehabilitation programmes for the benefit of cardiac patients and make donations or contributions toward the cost of special items of equipment etc., for the cardiac units of the main Nottingham hospitals. The support group is run by volunteers, which include an elected Committee of Trustees who along with the group members are responsible for the social, fundraising and welfare activities.
