With an entrepreneurial spirit, we are one of London’s busiest producing theatres with over 1,000 performances per year reaching audiences of 170,000, and we also stage work in partnership venues across the UK and internationally. Our core aims are: 1. To produce new work Our pioneering programme combines new plays, comedy, cabaret and writers’ development work which is innovative, intelligent, daring and entertaining. 2. To discover and nurture new writers Writers are at the heart of the organisation. Our Writers’ Centre develops groundbreaking writers and artists and promotes the best new theatre writing and dramaturgical practice to the theatre sector both in the UK and abroad. 3. To develop new audiences Our artistic programme, together with a strong education department, engages with London’s global culture attracting a broad and diverse audience. Soho Theatre’s doors are open to all. Encouraging the next generation of theatregoers Soho Theatre’s audience is much young and more diverse than most other theatres. Attracted through our doors by our mixed programme, location and very accessible ticket prices, Soho Theatre is the gateway to a life-long love of theatre. In tandem with our support for emerging artists and young talent, we are helping to ensure a healthy future for this art form we all love. Education at Soho Theatre The Soho Young Company is a programme of artistic activity for young people aged 16 – 25, revolving around a schedule of in-house workshops over three terms, alongside the academic year. These workshops focus on three genres: theatre, cabaret and comedy. Targeting participants aged 16+ who have little experience of the arts, the SYC offers artistic opportunities and enjoyment for all. The bursary programme and our low prices attract a diverse participant demographic. SYC Outreach specifically works with groups from low-income backgrounds in Westminster, Brent and North Kensington providing opportunities to access the arts. Our aim is to work with, and inspire, young people. We provide the young people with opportunities to create new work and raise their aspirations. In the last year, we received a 500% increase in applications from young people wanting to join the courses. As part of buildingwide refurbishment fundraising campaign, a team of Staff members from across the company (with representatives from the Board of Directors to the Front of House Team) are running the Brighton Half Marathon in February 2014. Our aim is simply to improve the quality of life of the children and elderly, both in material ways but also through human contact. We visit the town a throughout the year and once a year around 12 to 15 of our members travel to Bulgaria to try to make a practical difference. They fund all their own travel and accommodation costs and other expenses; it is a point of pride for the Marble Project that administrative costs are as near to zero as it is possible to get them so that the money we raise goes where it should. We help out practically by building shelters for the elderly, painting, running handicraft classes for the orphanages and buying much needed equipment for the care homes and orphanages. We also run a Fun Day for the orphanages and a sports day for the local schools. Please visit our website - www.TheMarbleProject.org - for more information on our projects
