Bournemouth Foodbank (UK, 1143446) Browse events

YTD Raised: £5,183.26

***Helping Families, Adults and Children in CRISIS across Bournemouth***Bournemouth Foodbank was established in 2007, to provide clients with 3 days emergency food.Clients are referred to us by local support agencies, such as Citizen's Advice, Social Services and the Job Centre; in total we work with over 100 Agencies!Typically, clients are entitled to 3 parcels in a 6 month period. We distribute over 1 tonne of food a week in Bournemouth, and with that great work comes a financial cost. Our costs are kept to a minimum, and where possible we get food donated and we run on the kinda and amazing work that volunteers do.However, in order to meet the needs of those in our town and run the operation, we have to rent a warehouse, and employ 2 part-time members of staff (who usually end up working full time hours!). We also run a delivery van, and have various associated insurance and admin costs. Charity No: 1143446 Find out more Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Bournemouth-Foodbank-138400086226989/?fref=ts

With each passing day the contagion, COVID-19 infects yet another victim which could have been easily prevented. The streets of Afghanistan continue to see children and the elderly working long hours to provide a meal for their families. In most circumstances it is only this child or grandparent that is the lifeline for their families. This is the dire situation throughout the 34 provinces in Afghanistan. With a shattered health system being provided by the government and international aid agencies. World health officials fear this pandemic could wreak havoc in Afghanistan, a country of 37 million people and being one of the world's poorest countries. Ongoing war, poverty, poor healthcare and a large number of internal refugees all add up to make it one of the most exposed countries to the virus on the planet. Afghanistan only has 400-odd ventilators. Recently, the ministry of public health in Kabul had conducted 500 random tests of which nearly a third were infected with the virus. This shows the coronavirus has been circulating undetected in Afghanistan. As of 7th May 2020, there have been 3,563 positive cases, with 468 recoveries and 106 deaths across all 34 provinces in the country. Kabul Province has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Afghanistan at 925, followed by Herat with 702 cases, and then Kandahar with 464 cases. The people of Afghanistan cannot wait, urgent help is required to overcome the spread of infection and mortality rates. Time to act is now!
