STAR International (UK, XT37322) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

STAR International was founded by three friends in 2012 after many years of international volunteer service. While there are countless areas in need of assistance, our hearts lie with the children of Romania, especially those with special needs living in orphanages, group homes, or underprivileged communities. The quality of life of many of these individuals could be improved greatly with increased exposure to therapy. STAR International advocates not only for the importance of therapeutic interventions, but also for the rights of these children and young adults to receive them. Unfortunately, due to the current economic situation, access to resources is limited. We assist in providing resources needed to ensure the most successful therapeutic experiences possible, including training for caregivers in the skills needed to help those with disabilities reach their full potential in a safe and supportive environment.

The Waterside Charitable Trust (UK, 1121742) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Waterside Charitable Trust raises funds for health, sanitation and youth programmes in Africa. Its main focus is currently in Kenya and in the slums of the city of Kisumu. Kisumu, on the banks of Lake Victoria is Kenyas third largest city.  Most of our work is carried out in Obunga, home to 12,000 people who live in shanty buildings made of iron sheet and wood and who earn less than $1 a day. Toilets in the area are simple pit latrines that feed into the dirty river that runs through Obunga, helping spread disease. Thusfar we have built one toilet block, a community centre and have helped numerous small businesses in an effort to raise the standard of living. We are currently constructing a youth centre modeled on that of one of our partner organisations, The Hunslet Club in Leeds.

REST (Repatriation Services Trust) (UK, 10863977) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Thank you for visiting our profile page on MyDonate.Repatriation Services Trust (REST)On May 5th 2017 our lives were shattered when we received the devastating news that our son Tom had been killed in Dubai. This traumatic situation was exacerbated by the complex and costly process that we had to follow in order to bring our son home. Our experiences instilled in us a desire to help others who found themselves in similar situations and inspired us to set-up the Repatriation Services Trust. REST aims to help those who have lost a loved one overseas by providing advice, support and, where appropriate, funding. The fundraising events run by the REST trustees and supporters, and the donations made by businesses and individuals, enable us to cover the costs incurred in offering these services and supporting other families.  Repatriation. That morning we flew to Dubai to see Tom and to bring him back to Wales. Knowing Tom had travel insurance with Lloyds we rang them to arrange the repatriation payment. They wouldn’t assist us unless we could produce an English death certificate. This, of course, in an Arabic country wasn’t possible, even though the local security officer who assisted us spoke to them and verified our position. We then contacted the British Embassy in the UK. They emailed a document listing our options, Tom being dealt with in Dubai or Repatriation to Wales. Obviously, Repatriation was the only option we’d consider. From a list of companies we chose one with a local agent and contacted him. The total cost would have to be met immediately. We were now completely on our own with no support from the travel insurance company, in a foreign land. We were lucky enough to be able to pay the bill from our savings to prevent any delay. We just needed Tom home with all the people who love him. We flew home on the third day bringing Tom with us.REST will provide advice, support and help towards funding for people who lose a loved one in a foreign country.  Charity No: 10863977 Find out more Website https://www.repatriationtrust.org/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/RESTCharity/

YTD Raised: £0.00

Caroline's Rainbow Foundation is a registered UK charity working to raise awareness of the importance of safe travel to young people, whether they are going abroad for independent travel, gap year placements, organised tours or simply thinking about visiting a different country. Aimed at young travellers, CRF works with the education sector, The Foreign Office and other organisations, trusts and charities to provide easily accessible and helpful information about safe travel. In particular the charity provides information about personal safety abroad and encourages young people to recognise and prioritise life’s values wherever they may be in the world. Education in Schools An important part of CRF’s work is to provide educational materials to young people and support teachers in raising awareness about travelling safely.   Our Presentations in Schools Program offers free talks to Schools, Colleges and Universities. The program is run by Caroline’s brother, Richard Stuttle, who has travelled extensively himself and has completed a tutor training course organised by The Suzy Lamplugh Trust to become a tutor trainer. Richard then tailored a course to educate young people about travelling and foreign cultures. Sally Baker, Rebecca Downes and Ben Fogerty who are all experienced travellers are also fully trained to give presentations to Schools, Colleges and Universities about safety for gap year travellers. They all have a wide knowledge of different countries and cultures and are delighted to share their stories and experiences to others considering a gap year. Click Here for more details.

FRIENDS OF LERATONG (UK, XR70168) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Belfast priest Kieran Creagh has been working in some of the poorest parts of south Africa for the past 15 years. In this time he has been working very closely with the poor and the sick in the townships around Pretoria. It was during his time in these townships that Kieran became more and more aware of the need for a facility in the township where people could go for proper care and attention during their illness, most of which were terminal. He also recognized the need for a place that could bring care and attention out to the community, where it was desperately needed. Also a place that could provide respite for the families and carers of the sick. Having worked in hospices back at home in Ireland, Kieran knew that this was what was desperately needed within the township. 6 years ago Kieran set about fulfilling his dream of building a hospice, and today that dream is a reality. A fully functioning 20 bed hospice in the township of Atteridgeville, Pretoria, named LERATONG (Where there is love). This has been achieved by raising funds back home, in Ireland. Also by staffing it locally with retired nurses and doctors working voluntarily. The ‘Friends of Leratong’ is a registered charity trust set up to raise funds on an ongoing basis for this much needed facility. We run various events through the year. Thank you for your support and for ongoing support. Yours sincerely, Paul Creagh Chairperson Friends of Leratong Trust.

Green Pastures (UK, 297937) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Shepherd’s Purse is our bursary fund and used solely to support residents who are funded by the local authority. The Home is run on a ‘not for profit’ basis with a strong ethos of caring for any elderly person in need residential nursing care. We strongly believe that the elderly deserve the best care we can provide and that they should be treated with dignity and respect at the end of their lives. A fee is set each year by the Board which will allow us to break even financially whilst providing good quality, attentive care in a homely setting. Local Authority funding is now unrealistically low and falls well below this ‘break even’ fee. Without the support of the bursary many residents would not be able to live at Green Pastures. We don’t want to turn anyone away because of funding. The Shepherd’s Purse Fund helps us to keep our doors open to everyone. This year we need to raise £30,000 and we anticipate the need increasing now year by year. All the money we receive via Virgin Money Giving will go into the Shepherd’s Purse fund and be used to support needy residents.
