Nottingham Rowing Club (UK, CH8497) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Nottingham Rowing Club, based near Trent Bridge, is the largest club in the East Midlands and one of the most successful in the country, in the ten years since we were founded we’ve amassed over 1000 wins. We run several different programmmes, from High Performance to recreational, so there should be something for almost everyone whether you’re an aspiring international, someone who wants to improve, or simply want to potter about on the river. Age is no barrier. Nottingham Rowing Club was formed in 2006, initially as a result of the merger of the Nottingham Boat Club and the Nottingham Britannia Rowing Club, two historic Nottingham clubs that were established in 1894 and 1869 respectively. During the hundred-plus years of the two separate clubs both had various major achievements, but by the beginning of 2006 the votes of both clubs’ memberships supported the committees’ view that the sum of the two clubs would be greater than its parts and the merger process started. Fund raising, health and welfare sit comfortably alongside our sporting hero's.

Heal cardiomyopathie among children by climbing the Mont Ventoux - Heartdream Mont Ventoux Challenge 2017 (UK, 24459266) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Our Heart Dream: Around 6 million children globally suffer form cardiomyopathy, and 1000 of these are in the Netherlands. This is a serious and often congenital cardiac muscle disease. Almost half of these children die within five years following diagnosis of the disease or can only go on living after a heart transplant. There is unfortunately very little known about cardiomyopathy among children. The Heart Dream Foundation wants to change this and is financing scientific research into children cardiomyopathy. This research is to improve treatment and quality of life for these very sick children. And maybe one day, in a beautiful dream, to heal cardiomyopathy. Lucas is one of these 1000 children. In 2011, we were told Lucas had dilated cardiomyopathy, a cardiac muscle disease. For three years his heart was to weak to function without a continuous and extensive course of medication. On January 2015 Lucas was officially placed on the waiting list for a new heart. On February, Lucas got his new donor heart. After the heart transplant we have seen an increase in quality of life. Lucas can be a child again! The future remains unclear. A transplant heart has a life span of an average of 15 to 20 years. Research on new developments is therefore of vital importance to determine a better future prospect for these children. Now two years after his heart transplant, Lucas is aiming to deliver a world performance through participation in the Heart Dream Mont Ventoux Challenge.
