The charity supports many schools across this small West African country by supplying essential school items needed to gain an education. In addition to supplying these stationery items and other materials, the charity also provides funding for a variety of building projects for the developing of Gambian schools. Inking About Africa is run by a committed team of passionate volunteers who are dedicated to making a difference in one of Africa's poorest countries. 100% of funds raised goes directly into developing schools and children in The Gambia. If you are interested in fundraising for Inking About Africa we have a variety of projects which are in desperate need of your help. Maybe your assistance could help to fund building a toilet block or refurbish a school. In return for your support the charity will ensure that you receive regular updates and pictures. Please contact us if you would like to register as a fundraiser; we will be happy to send you a selection of projects to choose from and give advice on fundraising ideas. Inking About Africa was set up originally to allow people to recycle ink cartridges with the funds raised being used to help children in Africa. The charity quickly gained a positive reputation for the excellent work achieved and our supporters began asking for alternative ways to donate or fundraise for the charity. This led us to expand "Inking About Africa", a recycling charity, to encompass many other forms of fundraising. Setting up a "Virgin Money Giving" page is just one of the ways we have been able to give more people the chance to help us make a difference. Every penny really will help so please donate or fundraise and together we can help to educate the children of The Gambia.

We fund HVC to work with isolated rural communities and tackle poverty through education, health care, and support for livelihoods. Hope for the Village Child carries out a wide range of activities including the following. Mobile clinics visit isolated villages and provide immunisations and antenatal care to mothers and babies. We train traditional birth attendants in safe delivery practices. Our community based village health worker volunteers can give life saving treatment and prevent common diseases such as malaria, diarrohea and HIV. Many children in Kaduna suffer from ricketts, our support helps these children to access surgery or calcium supplements to strengthen their bones. We help to improve education in rural areas by building and upgrading village schools and providing supplies such books and desks, alongside adult and child literacy classes, and teacher training. Our water programme provides clean drinking water through the construction of wells. We are saving the lives of young children who would otherwise suffer high rates of water borne diseases, and often die before their fifth birthday.

BVLS helps Bethany to find alternatives to begging for the 1,000 or so people resident there, who, because of the stigma associated with leprosy, have difficulty in finding alternative employment. We provide funds to help run the communitys clinic, elementary school and a range of income generation schemes -- including the production of bags and table linen -- as well as direct funding for the healthy sons and daughters of people affected by leprosy to undertake vocational training or degree-level education. All this support helps Bethany move towards its goal of self-sufficiency. As a small charity, run entirely by volunteers, BVLS sends all donations 100% to Bethany, covering its minimal administrative costs from a small proportion of regular supporters membership fees.

We provide a happy, warm and friendly environment where children can thrive and learn under the supervision of trained, caring and competent staff. The Pre-school is a charitable, non-profit making organisation and fees alone do not provide all the funds we need in order to offer all the vital equipment and resources required to provide a wide variety of activities for the children. Each year we have a fundraising target that goes towards the running costs, the purchase of new equipment, days out for the children and improvements to the Pre-school. It also enables us to provide a free healthy eating initiative for all the Children which consists of fresh fruit and vegetable snacks twice a day. Additional funds can help us to provide valuable resources to ensure we can offer our staff essential or necessary training which isn't always funded by the local council. It also allows us to fund extra staff hours for when we may need to provide important one-to-one time for any of our children who may need it for whatever reason. YOUR SUPPORT IN OUR FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU!
(UK, 1028286) Browse eventsEDC is a local charity which purchases specialised equipment to help local disabled children. All the money comes from fund-raising and donations and, apart from very small amounts used for essential costs, it is all used to provide help to the children. The Charity is run entirely by unpaid volunteers. EDC gives help to local disabled children who live or attend school in the West Surrey area, or are under the care of the Royal Surrey County Hospital Children’s Unit in Guildford. EDC provides equipment to disabled children to make their lives as full as possible. The equipment enables children to live more comfortably, to play in more creative ways alongside their peers and siblings, to learn more easily or to enjoy more mobility. The equipment provided by EDC is always approved by a professional in the child’s medical caring team to ensure that the item purchased is the most appropriate for the child’s needs. Because the equipment is usually so specialised, and is either tailor-made or adapted exclusively for the child concerned, it is always much more expensive than standard ‘off-the-shelf’ products. For example, tricycles are frequently recommended and give children independence, exercise and the ability to play on equal terms with other children. They cost on average about £800 each. Normally, because of budget limitations or other restrictions, such equipment is either not available from the Health, Education or Social Services or would be so delayed that the necessary benefit to the growing child would be lost. Because each child’s need is different, each applicant receives individual attention. Apart from trikes, other examples of equipment provided in the recent past include walking aids, car seats, other specialised seating systems and buoyancy aids to encourage the children to swim as independently as possible.

(UK, 1057885) Browse eventsThe John Smith Trust was formed in 1996 to provide a permanent memorial to one of Britains best-loved politicians, the Rt Hon John Smith MP, who died suddenly in May 1994. Less than two years into the leadership of the Labour Party when he died, John Smith was held in high affection by many within and outside the Labour Party, not least because of the obvious sincerity with which he promoted the ideals of social justice and good governance. The aim of the Trust is to honour him by promoting the ideals that he held dear. Via the John Smith Fellowship Programme, the Trust unites young leaders across the globe who wish to promote those values. The Fellowship Programme is aimed at the next generation of leaders in a number of countries from the former Soviet Union and the Middle East - young leaders of proven ability and real attainments, regardless of their political background. The Programme is designed to introduce young leaders to the institutions and practices of democracy as they have evolved over time in the UK. It seeks to show how a mature democracy supports and develops good governance, the rule of law and the vindication of human and legal rights. It also shows how our form of democracy fosters and supports voluntary and other non-governmental organisations that seek to secure the relief of poverty, to empower disadvantaged groups and to give a voice to those who currently lack political influence. We do not attempt to indoctrinate the Fellows: we seek only to help them to choose the models that will work in their own societies. The Trust is a registered charity, not a party-political organisation; we have active support from all the major parties in the UK, and from many people and groups who are not active in politics.
