(UK, 1135404) Browse eventsOrphans of Ghana is a non profit Charity set up by volunteers who have lived in Ghana supporting orphans in their fight for survival. We have one vision, to provide innocent children who are victims of poverty with opportunities enabling them to unlock their potential both physically and mentally. We believe we have the tools and resources to achieve this vision. The orphanages we work with are are home to hundreds of abandoned, poor and orphaned children aged from just a few days up to 18 years old. Many of them are sick, some suffering from Malaria, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, or AIDS, and almost all are malnourished. Even more easily preventable conditions such as scabies, ringworm and boils are also commonplace. Within the four walls of these orphanages the children eat, play, sleep, learn and pray, they never leave. Each and everyone of these children need our help and it is us, Orphans of Ghana, who believe that through listening to the needs of our children and working with the orphanages that they call home we can help build long term foundations. Orphans of Ghana believe that we can make a difference. Every member of the team has lived in Ghana and worked with the orphaned children. We hope that our vision and your assistance, together, will bring about change, and give these children opportunities to secure themselves a future that is free from poverty. As our message spreads and our work grows we will be able to help children at other orphanages, and we aim to eventually improve the lives of all orphaned children in Ghana. Help us to help them...

Ashford Baptist Church has a close link with the charity Widows & Orphans in Rural Kenya, that serves the needs of vulnerable adults and children in rural Western Kenya. One such community is Namboboto. It's an incredibly poor place, where the community have to work hard to survive. Can you imagine not having clean water to drink or to wash yourself with? Imagine having to walk a long distance every day to collect (often dirty) water for your basic needs and to stay alive. Imagine a hospital with no running water, where cleanliness is essential in preventing cross-infection and aiding recovery. Namboboto hospital has no running water - in fact water is brought down from the dam at the top of the hill on push bikes and relatives have to bring in drinking water for the patients. Ashford Baptist Church has committed to raising enough money to allow the hospital to have access to water by:Piping water from the reservoir and installing a water storage towerConnecting the water to the theatre, maternity unit, wards and the night nurses station.Installing 6 rain collecting tanks. Please join with us in helping to provide Namboboto hospital with the water it so desperately needs. Previous visits have highlighted the need for just basic resources in these villages close to Mbale, Eastern Uganda, where poverty is rife. Our mission’s team supports the region where over 50 small churches work together to help their communities. In this deprived region, churches are the facilitators; they help mobilise the health, education and community resources. Almost half of Uganda’s population is under 15 years of age and, due to AIDS, many live with extended family members who do not have the resources to support them.
