In 2009, the Scottish Police Credit Union created The Scottish Police Credit Union Foundation to better help the Scottish Police Service and their communities. Our intentions were to create an accessible fund for our everyday heroes to support their local groups, community teams and causes.
The Beatrice is a narrow boat on the Caldon Canal in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands. We take school parties of children with special needs on trips, and in the holidays are used by groups that need our disabled facilities. We are out about 140 times a year and in 2014 carried nearly 1,500 passengers. No charge is made to school children but other groups (including family and social parties that wish to help with our fund-raising) make a donation of £100 or so. All trips have a qualified, paid, skipper, helped by a volunteer crew. The Charity costs around £12,000 a year to run, and donations are most welcome to help us to keep the Beatrice afloat.

We want to be up front and open about how fantastic that is; but we also want to be honest that there’s also so much in life that we’re still trying to figure out.Secondly, we want to be an outward-looking community, serving our local area. Thirdly, we want to be generous in attitude and action. We get out into the community as Street pastors (helping late night revellers in the West End), or at Tomatoes (cooked breakfast, chat and live music on Saturdays). We host the Women's Welcome Project for asylum seekers (food parcels, advice, classes and companionship) and volunteer at One Roof's Winter Night Shelters for the homeless.
