The Corbett Community Library is a volunteer-run community library based in the former Torridon Library at 103 Torridon Road, SE6 1RQ. The library is a charity formed in 2016 by local residents, to take over the management from Lewisham Council of the previously named, grade 11 listed, Torridon Road Library, in order to save it from being closed down The centre has developed into a financially sustainable Community hub for the Corbett Estate and surrounding areas with a population of over 20,000, The centre aims to promote the following charitable purposes: the advancement of education: the advancement of arts and heritage and the advancement of citizenship and community development for the benefits of residents living within the surrounding area, with a specific emphasis on services for families and young and older people. The library service has already been extended and now provides a wide range of free activities, events and services. The Centre encourages local residents to learn about the heritage of the area they reside in. The Charity also advances the arts through regular Makers Markets hosting the work of local artists and holding musical events featuring local performer and musicians. The Centre is a Dementia Friendly establishment and holds activities for older people and their carers.

Solutions Not Sides is an education programme that exists to provide humanising encounters, diverse narratives and critical-thinking tools in order to empower young people with the knowledge, empathy and skills to promote dialogue and conflict resolution, and to challenge prejudice in the UK. They work with young people age 15-19 in schools, university students through their summer programmes, and communities offering trainings and sessions for adults. Young Israeli and Palestinian peace activists are brought in as speakers to share their personal experience of living through conflict, enabling young people to see those affected as fellow human beings, helping them to understand and embrace the complexity of the problem, and empowering them towards seeking solutions.

In March 2012 Charlie Codling was suddenly diagnosed with a Difuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an incurable brain tumour.  Devastatingly after only 5 months, Charlie passed away on 6 September 2012, just 2 weeks before his 5th birthday. Inspired by Charlie’s love for life, strength, humour and caring nature, Charlie’s Mum and Dad, Karen and Steve were able to ‘Find the Wonderful in Today’ which they have adopted as their family motto and started the charity: Charlie’s Beach Hut. Charlie’s, is a beach hut style caravan at Perran Sands in Perranporth which aims to provide families of children with life limiting illnesses and families of Fire-Fighters that have suffered bereavement, or life changing injury whilst in the line of duty, a relaxing environment so they can forge some forever memories, in a hope that they can ‘Find the Wonderful in Today’.  You can read more about Charlie’s incredible journey at: www.charliecodling.co.uk or email Karen and Steve at: [email protected] The UK Charity Commission legal statement is: Charlie's Beach Hut Charity has been set up to relieve the needs of families and carers who have children with life threatening or terminal illnesses or have lost children to cancer; or to families of fire-fighters that have suffered life limiting injuries or bereavement whilst in the line of duty by the provision of a "Beach Hut" holiday home in Perranporth, Cornwall.
