(UK, 1121604) Browse eventsDeveloping Artists is a registered charity committed to supporting the performing arts in conflict and post-conflict nations. Its projects connect people and institutions in some of the worlds poorest countries with an international network of theatre companies and practitioners. Developing Artists strengthens underprivileged communities by providing constructive outlets for their creative life and long-term opportunities for self-expression and professional development. Developing Artists works in two key ways. It creates collaborative productions in each nation and through these productions identifies talented individuals who would benefit from participation in the charitys Apprenticeship Programme. Over the last seven years Developing Artists has delivered over 20 projects in eight countries and brought together artists and performing arts organizations throughout the world. The charity fosters a self-sustaining approach to the arts through which individuals acquire the skills to earn an income from their work and begin to support their own projects over the long term. They are further encouraged to share what they have learned within their local communities thereby acting as catalysts for wider change.

This is a Christian interdenominational organisation working in Uganda to develop young people’s relationships with Christ, encouraging discipleship and equipping the youth to understand and live out their faith. In much the same way as plants need deep roots to survive and flourish, young Christians need to develop deep roots if they are to be fruitful. Many young people hear the word of God in Uganda and respond; far more than in the West. However, opportunities to strengthen their faith and relationship with Christ are often lacking, especially in rural areas. As a result, many of the youth face the cares of their world (the legacy of armed conflict, poverty, disease and the conflicting pulls of both western and traditional cultures) with ungrounded faith, largely unsupported and unprepared. Through working with the youth, Deep Roots aims to change a nation through the transformation of individuals and communities who will practically demonstrate an alternative to the lifestyles and life choices that have lead to scourges such as HIV and AIDS, corruption, robbery, poverty and domestic violence that are sadly all too common in local society.

Calstock Parish Archive is run entirely by volunteers and financed by grants from local bodies, donations and sales of publications based on the collections. Our volunteers are always ready to share their knowledge, enthusiasm and skills. We receive visitors and enquiries from all over the world and are delighted to help others in exploring our heritage. This engagement often adds to the collections and our own knowledge. In April 2019 we became the first community archive to achieve the Quality Mark awarded by Cornwall Record Office. Our parish forms part of the Cornish Mining Landscape World Heritage Site but has natural beauty so most visitors and many residents have little idea of the rich industrial and social heritage which surrounds them. Our aim is to collect as much information and record as many memories as we can before they are lost in order that we can conserve and pass on this knowledge for the enjoyment of our community, visitors, researchers and future generations. Calstock Parish Archive was created in 1985 as the result of a scheme to provide work for a number of people in an area of post-industrial depression. The resulting collection was safeguarded and enlarged by The Calstock Parish Archive Trust, registered as a charity in 1999. Shared accommodation at Calstock Village Hall became inadequate for working on the expanding collections, so the Archive moved to a dedicated room in the Tamar Valley Visitor Centre at Drakewalls in 2009. This room rapidly reached its capacity and the search began to find a larger but affordable space in which to properly care for and research the collections. We are moving (autumn 2019) to the disused mortuary chapel in nearby Albaston Cemetery which will provide storage facilities for the archive collections and flexible working space available to be hired by community groups. We need funds to carry out a staged development of our facilities and volunteers to help sustain this exemplary community archive.

(UK, XT36417) Browse eventsOur mission is to save and improve lives of individuals with anorexia nervosa and their families by: Our message is that anorexia nervosa (AN) is a condition a person is genetically predisposed to have. It is triggered by weight loss which, in turn, can be initiated by a variety of factors. It is neither a lifestyle choice nor a condition that can be afflicted by families or society. Scientific research has proven that AN has genetic components. This understanding is essential for two main reasons: The AN process is well understood: while most people can afford to diet and lose weight throughout their lives, individuals predisposed with AN need to realize that weight loss may result in an out-of-control psychobiological spiral, leading to even further weight loss. The possible implications of this weight loss should be realised and acepted by sufferers, family and friends who should also celebrate the high achieving personality traits and sensitive nature often associated with those predisposed to AN.

The festival brings to Wales an international roster of great artists, ensembles and composers presenting a programme of concerts, talks and workshops where the composers themselves rub shoulders with audiences and share their passion for the best of new music. Over a ten-day period, the 2014 Festival will feature artists from Belgium, Denmark, Ireland and the UK including choirs, orchestras and smaller chamber groups in a range of beautiful historic buildings and also state-of –the art concert halls. Composers from the performers’ home countries will feature as well as extended profiles of the work of the late Sir John Tavener and Tarik O'Regan. Keeping music alive, the festival is committed to directly supporting composers and commissions new work each year which will premiere during the festival – in 2014 this includes a new work by Gabriel Jackson "Zero Point Reflection" which will be premiered by Juice Vocal Ensemble. We are able to present our ambitious programme thanks to generous funding from the Arts Council of Wales and Vale of Glamorgan Council whose support amounts to 56% of the overall cost of the festival. It is our job to raise the remaining 44% from trusts and foundations, international organisations, ticket sales and donations. With a target of £14,000 this year to raise from individual supporters, please consider supporting the 2014 festival.
