Charlie's Charity (UK, 1136148) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Charlies Charity works to raise funds for young people in clubs and organisations in Wiltshire who would benefit from our support to help them make the most of their sporting abilities and opportunities.. Charlies Charity has been set up in the memory of Charlie, who tragically died in a car accident on 26 September 2009 at the age of 18 years, 2 months and 5 days. Charlie was loved by all who knew him and in his short but full life he made a huge and lasting difference to peoples lives. Sport, especially football, played a large part in Charlies life. Whether it was watching it on TV, watching Spurs or playing for his teams, it was his passion and it is hoped that others will be able to benefit in some way from the legacy that Charlie has left behind. In all that Charlie did, he did with a smile on his face that warmed all who came into contact with him very deeply. This "just being Charlie" earned him great respect, popularity and love and quite simply, he was someone who people wanted to be with.

Literacy In A Box Trust (UK, 1118177) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Our mission is to ensure that every child has access to the most basic education essentials such as pens, pencils, paper, chalk and rulers. We provide these educational basics in brightly coloured boxes which are themselves used for a variety of purposes. Each box contains enough basic school materials for 25 pupils and costs £295 including shipping. Our core programme is “School Aid for Zambia”. Primary education in Zambia is “free” but the education budget results in chronic underfunding of schools. Poverty and AIDS means parents are often unable to provide the educational basics that UK children take for granted. In addition to our core programme, School Aid 4 Zambia, we have shipped boxes to Zimbabwe and the Philippines and boxes have been flown to Ghana and Nepal. However the provision of Literacy Boxes to Zambian schools remains the main focus of our operations. It would take 800 Literacy boxes a year to keep the 25 or so schools with which are currently involved adequately supplied with basic school materials. Many Schools in the UK are adopting the Literacy in a Box Trust, not only as a charity in its own right, but also as a catalyst to help deliver the curriculum in Global Citizenship and Understanding an Overseas Culture.
