Lover Community Trust was set up in 2015 to acquire the old school buildings in the small Wiltshire village of Lover, and bring them into community use. Like many rural villages, over the years Lover has lost its school, pub, post office and shop, and is poorly served by public transport. Acquisition of the buildings (now known simply as 'The Old School'), adjacent to the village playing fields, Lover Green, will provide a venue for a range of sporting, educational and recreational facilities. This will greatly improve the quality of life of local inhabitants, particularly the very old, youngsters and those without their own transport. Since acquiring The Old School in June 2016, much has been done to bring the building back to a reasonable state of repair, following many years of neglect while it stood empty following closure of the village primary school. Weatherproofing work, some elementary redecoration and a certain amount of electrical and plumbing work have been completed to bring it to a usable, if basic, state of repair. Currently a heating system is being installed so that the village can continue to enjoy the use of the building through the winter. But there is a long way to go. We are planning to move the thriving local pre school (currently housed in an adjacent Portakabin) into one wing of the building. We will then need to install additional toilet facilities, a fit-for-purpose kitchen and a whole host of upgrades and improvements to bring the building to an acceptable standard for its long term role.Much of the work is being done by volunteers from the local community, but we still need to buy materials and pay for professional help with tasks that are outside our capabilities. Your donation can make a real difference and would be much appreciated. Charity No: 1164291
