Haslewey is a completely independent organisation, a registered charity that runs as a business. We are reliant on around 80 volunteers and 9 employed staff. To enable Haslewey to continue to benefit the local community we are heavily dependent on income we generate from room hire, services we offer, fundraising through the local community, grants and lets not forget about team of our amazing and dedicated volunteers helping at the cafe, kitchen, reception and Community Meals Service. We could not run the centre without their help and support. Thanks our fantastic community we managed to raise £15,000 to open small post office after old facility was shut down. We are running our own cafe, open from Monday to Friday, offering breakfast, lunch or a light snack with cup of tea or glass of wine. Our centre offers wide range of activities for all ages like Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, Bingo, Stretch & Tone and many more. Our Community Meals Service, delivers hot and freshly cooked lunches from Monday to Friday for those who are unable to provide meal for themselves. It has been a great success, and the number of people signing up for the service is still rising. We also have a community car, used for our clients and volunteers to help them with transport or delivering CMS. Majority of our clients are elderly, sometimes very lonely and frail people who finds not only a company but also an entertainment at the centre. We care for their wellbeing and love to see them at the centre.

We are a charitable organisation that works with Colchester hospitals to help provide additional equipment to benefit patients. SInce it was founded in 1954 The Colchester League of Hospital and Community Friends has been fulfilling its charitable work in the Colchester Hospitals. Over the years, as the hospital facilities in Colchester have changed, the League of Friends’ role has been adapted to fit in with what is required, but the League’s basic philosophy of care for patients, visitors and staff has never varied. The most visible work of the League is their Shops, Guiding Service, Ward Shop Trolleys, Ward Newspaper Rounds in Colchester General Hospital, and the tea bar at Essex County Hospital and cafe at the Primary Care Centre in Colchester. Along with paid staff, these outlets and services are manned by the many volunteers who willingly give of their time. Money raised by the League is ploughed back into the Colchester hospitals by providing special equipment – any request from any department is considered by the League’s Trustee Directors, they always try to help when they can. (UK, SC012836) Browse eventsSt. John’s is a thriving Scottish Episcopal church in the heart of Edinburgh. However, St John’s is not just about the church and worship, but about the difference we make to individual lives. Our aim is to remain culturally relevant, accessible, inclusive and creative. We host a number of support groups and hundreds of events each year. Many of these work with the most disempowered people in society and promote social justice. We have recognised the very urgent need to improve and upgrade our space, so we can offer a better quality of support and outreach to these groups. The rooms we provide have no natural light and poor access. Our community hall is also outdated and lacks flexibility. Every penny raised through our appeal will help ensure St. John's continues to be a place of welcome, support and inspiration for future generations. Thank you for your support!

(UK, 1151664) Browse eventsBISEE Books is a charity which aims to inspire a love of reading in disadvantaged schoolchildren in Ecuador. It was set up in memory of Sarah Howard 26, Indira Swann, 18, Emily Sadler, 19, Elizabeth Pincock, 19, and Rebecca Logie, 19, who were travelling in Ecuador when their coach struck a lorry loaded with sand on the 12th April 2008. The name takes the first letter of each girl’s first name: Becci, Indira, Sarah, Emily and Elizabeth. BISEE Books was officially launched in April 2009, with a visit to Ecuador by the families of the five girls one year on from the accident. Five schools had their own library created in the girls’ names. Since then, with thanks to the tremendous support of family, friends and other people moved by the cause, funds have been raised to purchase the BISEE Book Bus, which has been working in rural communities in Ecuador since March 2010. The BISEE Book Bus is stocked with books, materials and volunteers, and travels from school to school working directly with those children most in need of our help. Many of the children who work with the bus live in extreme poverty. They work with their parents after school and at weekends, with their livestock on the land, or selling what they can in the local markets. These children cannot imagine a future different to that of their parents. The only way out of poverty for them is education, and if the BISEE Book Bus can inspire some of them through reading, we can really make a difference to their futures. BISEE Books is a registered charity with the charities commission (registered charity number 1151664). The fund is exclusively for the development of the literacy project in Ecuador which is a cornerstone of the memorial to the five girls who died and the eight survivors of the 12th April 2008 coach crash.
