(UK, 1142650) Browse eventsGipton/Harehills (population of 27,000+) are acknowledged as neighbourhoods of long standing deprivation. Based on a 2009 statistical survey. Gipton Together work with children aged 5ys -16yrs. 200+ children attend our activities five evenings a week. All our activities were chosen by the children themselves rather than adults telling them what to do. We believe this is why our project has been very successful in reaching some hard to reach children. To ensure all the children have affordable access to the arts and sport we charge £1 to attend. We run 23 weekly classes per week in various styles of dance, musical theatre, drama, karate, boxing, cheerleading, drumming and tumbling. Gipton Together is well summed up by our mission statement, ‘Expanding horizons and inspiring positive choices’, and our aims are: To create opportunities for children to enjoy and participate in the performing arts and sport, developing self-discipline, confidence, strength of character, health and wellbeing To have a safe place for the children to go in the evenings, reducing their exposure to crime/anti-social behaviour To continue to develop opportunities for children to broaden their choices and improve their life skills To continue to develop new opportunities and activities for our children that have a positive and a beneficial impact on gaining more life skills To improve children's leadership and team working skills and consequently improve employment

(UK, 1182693 ) Browse eventsAbove Us Only Sky? is a Christian charity which was started out of a need to try to find immediate solutions for those who are living rough on the streets. For many homeless people there is no other option and the conditions that they face are bleak. Above Us Only Sky? provides life-saving, military-style, all weather sleeping bags, capable of keeping someone warm and dry whatever the conditions may be. However, the sleeping bag is just the start; we offer support in other ways too, meeting not just their physical but also their spiritual needs, to show them God’s love and to treat them with respect and dignity. Many homeless people who have received an Above Us Only Sky? sleeping bag attest to the fact that it saved their life and restored their sanity. We continue to work with the recipients of our sleeping bags to find accommodation, work and a sense of community.

As a specialist cancer respite charity with a sporting focus, we provide relief from the difficulties of living with cancer. We do this by providing respite days and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer - some of which are walking related. We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. walking) and how it can help both prevent cancer and assist in recovery post diagnosis. Join our walking community and help people living with cancer at the same time!

Helping Paws has many projects in the pipeline. A few that we are working on at the moment...Our primary focus is on creating community projects in areas with high numbers of stray animals. These projects can include:- Educational sessions in schools- Neutering, vaccination and routine veterinary clinics- The promotion of humane treatment towards animals- Creating centres where food and water can be donated for animals - Donations from the UK or other countries for routine treatments and specific foodsWe are currently fundraising for the creation of an app.If an injured, sick or ill animal is found by either a local or a tourist: they can open the app, it finds their location and gives the closest treatment centres around for them to contact and donate if they accept. All to often an animal is found in life threatening circumstances: it can be difficult to locate an organisation that is local and able to help; or an organisation that is very far away has to visit: This app could help save dogs lives, prevent wasting external charitable funds and help to fundraise for the treatment of the animals.
