YTD Raised: £0.00

Co-Opera Co. was recently described in the press as “........ a revolutionary opera company whose values are firmly rooted in the time-honoured, traditional values of a good, old-fashioned, hands-on Apprenticeship”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       In 2008 soprano Kate Flowers and lighting designer Paul Need realised that there was a significant gap at the very start of many singers' careers, with very little opportunity for them to work alongside more experienced members of the profession in prestigious, professional productions at this crucial stage in their career development.                                     The Apprenticeship Stage - Earning while Learning. So Kate and Paul thought they should do something about it, and in July 2008 Co-Opera Co. was formed.Since we first opened our doors for a series of weekend workshops in Bethnal Green in January 2009 Co-Opera Co. has brought together over 50 eminent professionals - our Associate Artists http://www.co-opera-co.org/html/associate_artists.HTML -  to work with over 700 trainees and emerging artists – our Associate Members - in a two tiered, coupled system:-Co-Opera Co. Development Programmes - Connections for aspiring artists - those still in training, coming back into the business after a career break or wishing to further explore and hone their craft. Touring Company for emerging artists - those who have proved themselves ready for a career. The Touring Company is a true mix of experience and expertise – rising stars of the future working alongside seasoned professionals in top-class, innovative productions on extensive tours to a variety of prestigious UK venues, enabling emerging artists to gain the vital experience they need to further their careers. Our vital work is not confined to singers. In 2010 we created The Co-Opera Co. Orchestra - our own orchestra of 15 young professional players.. We also help trainee directors, conductors, répétiteurs, designers, lighting designers, stage technicians and set and costume makers. We have toured 9 new productions:-                                                                                                                                                     Albert Herring, La Boheme, The Marriage of Figaro, Carmen, The Magic Flute, Hansel and Gretel, Don Giovanni, Madama Butterfly, The Mikado. To over 20 UK venues including:-                                                                                                                                                                           Blackpool Grand, Bury St. Edmunds Apex, Buxton Opera House, Cheltenham Everyman,  Chesterfield Pomegranate, Crawley The Hawth, Croydon Ashcroft, Darlington Civic, Harrow Arts, Hastings White Rock, London Hackney Empire, London Wilton's Music Hall,  Llandudno Venue, Malvern Theatres, Manches

Tutudesk UK (UK, 1148557) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Imagine a child attending a school with no classroom desks. What would they write on? Image a teacher trying to read the work they’ve written whilst leaning on their friend’s back. Is it legible? Over 95 million school children in Sub Saharan Africa don't have the benefit of a classroom desk (worldwide, it's estimated at over 400m). This affects the development of literacy, academic performance and the ability to concentrate in class. A Tutudesk is a simple, low technology solution, a portable school desk. A child can place the Tutudesk on their lap, whether they are sitting on the floor or on a chair. It is lightweight, so children can also carry the desk home at the end of the day so that they can complete their homework and any further study. To date over 1 million desks have been distributed across 24 countries. Our goal is to provide a further 20m Tutudesks to 20m African children by 2015. Thank you for your support.
