Overview The Cecil Bowen Memorial Fund was set up in September 2017 in loving memory of Cecil Bowen. Cecil was born inside the city walls and was proud to be able to call himself a true Cestrian. Faversham Umbrella is here to support all members of the community. Usually, when the centre is open as normal, we provide facilities and activities for everyone, in a safe and non-judgemental way, for companionship, friendship and support. We offer support to anyone within the community, but especially those who may be experiencing vulnerability for many reasons including loneliness, grieving, short or long-term mental health, physical issues or learning disabilities. Our aim is to support and enable our visitors to increase in self-esteem, confidence and independence. We welcome visitors into the centre and invite them to have a drink and hot meal in our café area or take part in one of our many activities. Whilst the centre has been closed due to Covid-19 we have been providing a weekly phone service to those who are isolated so that they can hear a friendly voice and a listening ear once a week. We also send out a craft pack on a fortnightly basis to people’s door to give them something to have a go at whilst many activity groups are closed. If you want to find out more visit www.favershamumbrella.org, find us on social media or call 01795 229143.

The Mayagna Children’s Fund provides funds in Nicaragua to support children, many of them rescued from the streets. It also provides funds for adults in what is the second poorest country in Central America after Haiti, according to World Bank statistics. Poverty, although declining steadily in recent years, remains high. More than 80% of Nicaragua’s poor live in the rural areas; many in remote communities where the access to basic services is still a daily challenge.
