YTD Raised: £0.00

Friends of Wimbish School (FOWS) are parents, friends and family of children who attend Wimbish Primary, but also people within the community who are passionate about their local school and who feel that they can make a positive difference. Wimbish Primary School provides education from Reception to Year 6 for the children of the Village and surrounding areas , which includes nearby Carver Barracks which accounts for 75% of our pupils.Due to its small size (currently 54 pupils) and the transient nature of Service family life, the School faces many challenges not associated with the majority of small, rural Primary Schools, but the dedicated Head Teacher and Staff ensure that the experience of their children is incredibly positive and rewarding, borne out by their latest Ofsted report. FOWS strive to raise the funds for equipment and extra-curricular activities that further enhances the positive School experience of our pupils. Charity No: 1055520

YTD Raised: £0.00

Redbridge foodbank is part of a national network of foodbanks, giving out nutritionally balanced emergency food to people in crisis who have nowhere else to turn. Non-perishable food is donated by the community and banked at Redbridge foodbank. The food is distributed to individuals and families in crisis through referrals from a network of registered care professionals such as Social Services, Victim Support, schools and church pastoral workers. Upon referrals, clients are sent to our Distribution Centre, which takes the form of a café-style environment. A listening ear is provided in a safe non-judgmental place where clients can find out about possible areas of help. Redbridge foodbank provides a multi-agency platform to facilitate this such as Citizens Advice Bureau, Debt Counselling, Drug and Alcohol Services and Housing Advice. The foodbank provides short term emergency food to an individual or family in crisis while a long-term strategy is developed. Carolyn's Run for Cocktails in Care Homes! “I think what you are doing is very good. You know, it livens the place up a bit. It is nice to have the sound of laughter and people enjoying themselves” Care Home resident On 22nd June, Magic Me Volunteer Carolyn will be running 13.1 miles to raise money for Cocktails in Care Homes, she has been volunteering since 2012: "When I was little I used to visit my own Grandma in her care home, and would always leave feeling sad because of the many residents who didn't have family or friends to visit them. It can be such a lonely place for many people, and as soon as I learned of the Cocktails in Care Homes initiative I knew it was a perfect project for me to get involved in. Those that know me well will know how much I will struggle with every step of the way, so please support me to raise money for this fantastic charity so we can keep bringing some fun to many more care home residents." Cocktails in Care Homes brings fun and glamour to care home residents! Every week Magic Me volunteers visit an East London care home to host an evening cocktail party. Residents get dressed up and look forward to the special occasion. For many this is the only visit they get and residents enjoy begin in touch with the wider community. This year we have hosted 41 parties for over 152 older people and over 134 volunteers at five London care homes. To throw a cocktail party costs £100 which includes:    About Magic Me "Magic Me is the best thing going on, because it is actually changing people’s lives" Young participant, aged 9. Magic Me runs creative arts projects which bring together young people 9+ and older people, 55+, to build a stronger, safer community. Week by week young people and older adults meet together in schools, care homes, older peoples centres and after-school clubs, working on a shared activity: learning photography, writing poetry, creating a theatre piece or a mosaic to decorate a local wall.  Participants are encouraged and supported to work together, so that real relationships can develop. Activities are led by professional artists, and designed to cater for both age groups, fostering conversation and an exchange of ideas. Based in Tower Hamlets, East London, every year we work with over 500 local people from different generations, cultures and ethnicities. Magic Me challenges negative stereotypes of young people and elders. It also gives people of all ages a way to get involved in their community and stay connected, to learn new skills and pass on expertise. In 2011 we expanded our new project Cocktails in Care Homes, which has proven really popular since we launched it in Autumn 2010. Our team of young adult volunteers run monthly cocktail hours for residents in 6 local care homes, a chance for older people to dress up, chat with new people and stay in touch with the wider community beyond their four walls. "Magic Me has turned my life around, I want to get up in the morning and do things. Ive got something to get up for." Man, 80+, taking part in a weekly photography project with teenage students.

Bayford Mission Hall Society (UK, 1162549) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Bayford Mission Hall Society is set up to preserve and utilise the Bayford Hall for the benefit of the community. The Bayford Mission Hall Society was set up in July 2015 as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) to purchase, renovate and maintain this small Hall in Bayford, Somerset for the benefit of the community in Bayford & Stoke Trister and surrounding areas. The Hall was gifted to Bayford Community in the 19th Century by a resident. Over the years it has been in Trust with the Bath & Wells Diocese. However, last year the Diocese decided it was non-viable to continue to maintain the chapel as it required major renovations & repairs. The community overwhelmingly decided it should be purchased & owned by them and the Bayford Mission Hall Society was born. Since then, we have fund raised with various local events & grants from local organisations to enable us to purchase the building. We continue to fundraise to facilitate the repairs & renovations required to make the Hall safe and user-friendly for everyone including providing disabled access. Please donate to support our cause. Pekbeken Ali Foundation (UK, 1148259) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Pekbeken Ali Foundation was set up to help poor and disadvantaged children and families in bangladesh. We assist with access to clean drinking water, blankets, housing and education. We also have a policy of helping individuals sustain their families through access to decent education and by provision of means to earn a regular income. Bangladesh currently suffers from a high level of illiteracy with around half of the population being able to read and write. In remote or rural areas, access to basic primary school education is scarce and even when this is available; most children have to suffer inadequate shelters in which schooling takes place. PAF looks to create schools where there is a requirement and to replace buildings made of tin which fail to provide a place conducive to a great studying environment. We look to achieve this goal by raising money to build schools through projects such as 3 Peaks and Mount Kilimanjaro Challenges where our team members fund the trips personally and donate 100% of the money they have raised to the charity.   In 2012 PAF managed to raise over £2,500 when a team of seven climbers completed the 3 Peaks Challenge. This money has part funded the building of a school in the village of Nazirow gow in  Sylhet region, Bangladesh . The school is currently under construction with the foundation stone laid on 14th January 2013 during a ceremony attended by a local MP (name). The current tin structure is being replaced by a brick building and will house up to 120 school children with a total of 8 teachers providing morning and afternoon classroom shifts in a secure and safe environment. All classrooms will be kitted out with desks and chairs and the school will potentially hold a small library. As well as providing clean, hygienic and well-constructed classrooms, we aim to ensure clean drinking water and sanitation facilities are available at the school, in order to help improve the health of the children. The school is due to be completed and officially opened on the 29th March 2013 by the founder Mohammed Ali.
