(UK, 1141680) Browse eventsExploring Global Health Opportunities is a charity which aims to generate, combine and increase interest and efforts in improving international health, particularly in poor countries. EGHO currently works with projects in Kenya including Trauma and Orthopaedics, Patient Safety, Hospital staff education and training, Rural medicine and community health. EGHO also aims to bring people and organisations together to help maximise efforts and impact in project sustainability. EGHO projects provide a service where there is evidence of need. We work on a skills and knowledge transfer basis with the supporting and receiving teams. A key feature of the projects supported by EGHO is the development of local services run and funded by local health care communities to provide sustainable health care and the avoid the promoting of dependancy on further charitable donations. A recent example was the development of the first Primary Trauma Care course in Kenya in October 2011. On a Monday and Tuesday 20 Kenyan doctors and nurses were trained on an internationally recognized immediate assessment and treatment of trauma patients. On Wednesday 8 of the Kenyan doctors underwent a training the trainers course to run their own Primary Trauma Care course. This the Kenyan team ran on the Thursday and Friday by themselves and trained a further 20 Kenyan doctors and nurses. Both the initial course run by doctors from the UK and South Africa and the second course run by the Kenyans were formally evaluated. The Kenyan course performed better than the one run by a EGHO sponsored visiting team. This will now be rolled out across Kenya by Kenyans.

We also run a Baby Bank, providing clothing, toys, nappies, baby food and hygiene goods for children under 5 years old. (UK, 1141744) Browse events“Taking the wounded to the waterside” Fishing For Forces was formed to allow anglers and members of the public nationwide to express their thanks to those who have suffered wounds of any description, those who are serving and those who have served in all conflicts, protecting our country and much envied way of life. Working with many anglers, clubs and syndicates throughout the UK we organise monthly group and individual days at the waterside to share the now widely recognised therapeutic and stress-busting benefits that a day at a river or lake can provide. There are many among the pictures in our gallery who have suffered wounds, both physically and mentally, but their courage in trying to get back to a normal life is only to be admired. With your donations we assist in the recovery of our wounded and remove the stress attached to being a member of HMAF at every opportunity. This is your charity and we only put in to action what many of you have said, with one to one mentored instruction and many anglers giving their time to pass on their skills in all the disciplines of angling. Check the website www.fishingforforces.org and see what so many of you have achieved so far and I assure you that, without exception, all of our 2000+ guests to date (all members of HMAF) have ended the day asking “when is the next one?”. Many are also taking up angling as their primary leisure pursuit. The demand is ever-growing as you are aware so please join us, give generously and let us broaden our horizons and achieve even greater results on your behalf. My thanks. Bill HowellFounder
