Residents are entitled to a hot evening meal, breakfast and a packed lunch. The hostel amenities include showers, washing and laundry facilities and TV room. North Herts Sanctuary also provides day services to help address the social and health needs of service users. Those using the shelter are assessed for issues such as drug and alcohol dependence, mental health and relationship problems. They are then provided with counselling, advice and a means of referral for treatment. Residents are also given help with regard to finding a permanent home and currently 85% of them move on to live in their own accommodation. They can still attend the Sanctuary on a daily basis for training and guidance sessions. Several have also become volunteers at the Sanctuary.

All Saints stands at a crossroads near the centre of Youlgrave village, and we feel privileged to be regarded as a valued part of the village community, among both church-goers and non-church-goers. We feel it is important that church is kept open, and we extend a warm welcome to all our visitors, whether they come to join us for worship, or to see All Saints’ history or to simply appreciate a time of stillness or prayer. We appreciate reading comments left in our visitors’ book, and we pray regularly for prayer requests left in the book in our side chapel. We are delighted to have a good relationship with Youlgrave Primary School, who use church for curriculum activities, and also for Christmas, Easter and Harvest services and events. The school children have also contributed to our Easter displays and our flower festivals.

In other words, the lifetime chances of children are largely established before the age 5. Uplift (Devon) seeks to improve the lives and life-chances of any child under the age of five in the South-West, by providing professional support and spaces for families to meet, learn and make connections.
