Making The Change was founded as a pilot project to provide support to 16-18 year old young offenders who had completed the custodial part of their sentence. The intention was to help prevent repeat offending, and allow young men to become active contributing members of the community. Support was provided in a residential setting. Making The Change was founded as a pilot project to provide support to 16-18 year old young offenders who had completed the custodial part of their sentence. The intention was to help prevent repeat offending, and allow young men to become active contributing members of the community. Support was provided in a residential setting. In 2010, the trustees identified suitable premises and in January 2011, Brent Knoll House in Bristol was opened. The house was run with dedicated staff, who provided support to the young men whilst they were resident in the house, and in some cases, in the time following their departure. The trustees commissioned an independent report on the project to be carried out by the University of Gloucestershire. The project has the full support of the Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner for Avon and Somerset. When the project was established, the Youth Justice Board agreed to provide a grant for three years, representing approximately 45% of the running costs. The trustees were able to raise the remaining costs from companies, charitable trusts and individual donations, and had considerable local support. In February 2013, the Youth Justice Board, with only six weeks notice terminated the grant agreement with effect from 31 March 2013, nine months before the completion of the three year project. The project was able to continue until 31 August 2013, using funds which the Trustees had raised. However the premature withdrawal of the Youth Justice Board grant meant that the Trustees were unable to complete the pilot project as planned. The Trustees do not consider that they have received from the Youth Justice Board a full and satisfactory explanation of why they chose to curtail the grant early. They are particularly disappointed that the success of the project and hard work that they and the staff had put into the project appeared to be ignored by the Youth Justice Board. The successful progress of the project had been recognised in the interim report from the University of Gloucestershire, which had been shared with the Youth Justice Board. The Trustees would like to thank all those who have supported their attempt to find a way of reducing re-offending by young people.

Hope for the African Village Child is a UK registered charity working in partnership with Hope for the Village Child Foundation in northern Nigeria. We fund HVC to work with isolated rural communities and tackle poverty through education, health care, and support for livelihoods. Hope for the Village Child carries out a wide range of activities including the following. Mobile clinics visit isolated villages and provide immunisations and antenatal care to mothers and babies. We train traditional birth attendants in safe delivery practices. Our community based village health worker volunteers can give life saving treatment and prevent common diseases such as malaria, diarrohea and HIV. Many children in Kaduna suffer from ricketts, our support helps these children to access surgery or calcium supplements to strengthen their bones. We help to improve education in rural areas by building and upgrading village schools and providing supplies such books and desks, alongside adult and child literacy classes, and teacher training. Our water programme provides clean drinking water through the construction of wells. We are saving the lives of young children who would otherwise suffer high rates of water borne diseases, and often die before their fifth birthday.

The focus of Inking About Africa is to provide children in The Gambia with the best educational start in life. The charity supports many schools across this small West African country by supplying essential school items needed to gain an education. In addition to supplying these stationery items and other materials, the charity also provides funding for a variety of building projects for the developing of Gambian schools. Inking About Africa is run by a committed team of passionate volunteers who are dedicated to making a difference in one of Africa's poorest countries. 100% of funds raised goes directly into developing schools and children in The Gambia. If you are interested in fundraising for Inking About Africa we have a variety of projects which are in desperate need of your help. Maybe your assistance could help to fund building a toilet block or refurbish a school. In return for your support the charity will ensure that you receive regular updates and pictures. Please contact us if you would like to register as a fundraiser; we will be happy to send you a selection of projects to choose from and give advice on fundraising ideas. Inking About Africa was set up originally to allow people to recycle ink cartridges with the funds raised being used to help children in Africa. The charity quickly gained a positive reputation for the excellent work achieved and our supporters began asking for alternative ways to donate or fundraise for the charity. This led us to expand "Inking About Africa", a recycling charity, to encompass many other forms of fundraising. Setting up a "Virgin Money Giving" page is just one of the ways we have been able to give more people the chance to help us make a difference. Every penny really will help so please donate or fundraise and together we can help to educate the children of The Gambia.
