YTD Raised: n/aThe Olgar Trust is keeping the woods alive by owning and managing a 5.5 acre site – called ‘Eley Grove’ – near Hastings, East Sussex. It is a beautiful spot; a wood within a larger wood. It is a special place for children, where they can abandon their connection to the internet and go back in time. We would love to complete the project by increasing our acreage by buying more land.

(UK, 1173707) We are the Fraternity Without Borders, Registered UK Charity no. 1173707. We care for the poorest regions of the world. Our main target is to assist orphans and vulnerable children, many of them with HIV. Since 2009, we have been providing food, education, cultural activities and basic healthcare to thousands of vulnerable children. We have been working to set up Shelter Centers in places where hunger, extreme poverty and vulnerability make new innocent victims every single day. One of these places is Mozambique, where the number of orphans due to AIDS continues to rise. In the absence of their parents, children take on the responsibility to care for their younger siblings. Because of the difficulties of survival, thousands lose the essential rights of any child, such as education, decent food, entertainment, healthcare and others. Our work began in Africa, and today we have 26 Shelter Centers which can take in about 9,000 children. The support for these boys and girls, as well as for the elderly in the villages, happens through the sponsorship by volunteers in Brazil, UK, USA and in different places worldwide and hopefully from you as well…

YTD Raised: £0.00The Safe Strong and Free Project (ssf) believes that every child has the right to grow up safe, strong and free, and that preventing sexual assault and exploitation of children is the responbsibility of the whole community. Ssf aims to reduce the vulnerability of young children to abuse and assault by raising the awareness of parents & carers and running a series of three workshops with pre-school children (typically 4 - 5 years old). Two puppets, Callum and Shona, help to teach the children strategies they can use to help them stay safe, strong and free. The 3 subjects covered in the workshops are: bullying; staying safe around strangers when not accompanies by an adult; and staying safe around adults and older children that the child knows.

YTD Raised: £0.00TAS supports remote African schools on a transparent and sustainable basis. Trusts for African Schools was set up as a UK charity in 2006 to improve the quality of educaiton in some of the poorest schools in Africa. 100% of all public donations are applied to specific projects. For each school we support we set up a local trust to sit alongside it. The trust raises funds, injects ideas and provides transparency and accountability on a sustainable basis. It does not own or manage anything nor does it have any contractual responsibilities to the school. It is there solely to support the school. Trustees come from the school and the community but also include business and professional people from further afield. They are the ‘Champions’ of the school. No-one is paid anything for being a trustee. We now have eleven school trusts established, (supporting over 3000 children) all in very remote areas, mainly in Kenya. In 2012 we distributed around £100,000 directly to school trusts for projects they prioritised. These included new and refurbished classrooms, science labs, additional teachers, computers, out of school hours teaching, solar power, sports activities and equipment, educational trips and incentives for teachers. Trusts are encouraged to think creatively and to try out new ideas for improving the quality of education. Lessons learned are disseminated via the website and the network of trustees. The website is also the main tool for transparency. Each school trust has its own micro-site on the TAS website where all minutes of meetings, details of proposals for funding, transfers of funds etc are accessible. Minutes of TAS trustee meetings, funding decisions etc are all available on the website along with full details of how to set up and operate a local school trust.
