We, IMO International, have been organising a Walkathon on Sunday the 12th May 2024 at Richmond Park to raise funds to complete building Indoor Sports Complex in Jaffna, Sri Lanaka. This is the first indoor sports complex which will be opened to the public with facilities to practice and play indoor and outdoor games. There is also a dedicated first floor for gym. Since Northern and Eastern province have gone through immense struggle due to the 30 years of civil war and the people who live there still go through lots of mental health issues, PTST, alcohol and drug misuse and addiction. We believe that having the sporting and gym facilities will give lots of encouragement and opportunity for these community to overcome the atrocity that they went through. We are really passionate about this community’s wellbeing as we had migrated from the same part of this world and went through all what they have gone through. However, we wanted to share little what we enjoy here to the people over there. This building will facilitate and promote sporting activity mainly among children and youth in Valikamam North and beyond. This way, we are hoping to build a physically and mentally healthy society and subsequently healthy nation. Words cannot express how much your donation means to us. We are so grateful for your partnership in making a difference in our journey! "THE BEST WAY TO FIND YOURSELF IS TO LOOSE YOURSELF IN THE SERVICE OF OTHERS"- Mahatma Ghandi HAPPY GIVING!

(UK, 1137819) Browse eventsTower Hamlets Foodbank works to combat hidden hunger within the local community. Tower Hamlets foodbank opened in December 2010 with the aim to provide emergency food to individuals and families facing crisis in Tower Hamlets. Since then we have fed over 6,000 people - 2,700 of whom have been children. Despite being home to Canary Wharf, Tower Hamlets has the highest level of child poverty in the UK – 25% of all households in the borough survive on less that £15,000 a year. Whether it’s due to a financial emergency, benefit change, mental illness or debt, many in Tower Hamlets are one unexpected bill away from having to visit a foodbank. All foodbank clients are referred through our network of care–professional agencies across the borough who are best placed to identify clients in need of emergency food. Our network of care-professionals includes GP’s, Social Workers, Health Visitors and Children’s Centers. Food is distributed at a foodbank centre where clients receive light refreshments, a listening ear, and emotional support/advice, whilst being signposted on to where they can get help to tackle the crisis they find themselves in. They also receive their much-needed donation of food, enough to last three days - which is the period assessed as the time it takes for the appropriate agencies to be in a position to assist. We are also working in partnership with the Child Poverty Action Group to provide welfare advice in our foodbank sessions to tackle the underlying cause of the crisis. So not only does your donation help to provide food but it also helps to tackle the underlying cause of food poverty. All food distributed is donated by the local community via supermarket collections, individuals, schools, businesses, community groups as well as churches, which is then ‘banked’ in a warehouse. Tower Hamlets Foodbank is a community project and so greatly relies on the generosity of the public – we would greatly appreciate your support so as to continue to provide this much needed service. Tower Hamlets Foodbank is coordinated by the charity First Love Foundation. For further information, please email us at [email protected].
