Home-Start Reading (UK, 1110638) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Home-Start Reading volunteers have been supporting local families going through hard times for over 30 years. Volunteers visit families in the home every week to provide emotional support and practical help. They help parents build their ability to cope with the difficulties they face so that they can provide happier, healthier and safer homes for their children. For the last 25 years, we have also run weekly family support groups in Whitley and Tilehurst. In October we were named Reading Charity of the Year at the Reading Pride Awards. Donations would go towards meeting the ever increasing demands for our service by Reading families, by expanding staff hours so we can recruit, train and supervise more volunteers. Our monitoring data for 2013-14 shows that families have reported that the vast majority of their identified needs had been fully or partly met through Home-Start’s involvement. By supporting Home-Start Reading, you will be making a real difference to some of Reading’s most vulnerable families. It costs just £29 a week to support a family in the home through Home-Start. “She’s been really great: someone to share the three little ones with and to help me; someone to help me get out; someone to confide in and to offer support; someone to listen to you.” A supported Mum about her Volunteer. “Research into Home-Start and other home visiting schemes confirms that they produce benefits for parents and children. Home-Start raises self-confidence, improves social networks, reduces difficult behaviour on the part of the child and improves physical and mental health.” Government report "Every Child Matters".

St Chad’s Community Project was founded in 1990. We support local families to build a better community and work in partnership with local people to create opportunities for personal and social development. We offer high quality childcare, family support and educational opportunities.   We are based in Bensham, Gateshead but work with families across the Borough and beyond. Our services reach over 1500 people per year and directly over support 1000 families, including those in need of emotional and practical support.   All families are welcome at St Chad’s and our Family Support team helps many parents struggling with fragile self confidence or low self esteem by providing emotional and practical help when they need it. Many families feel isolated and St.Chad’s provides a vital link to the community by offering access to a wide range of services at our centre or by working in partnership with others.

Bounce Back Foundation (UK, 1144297) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Bounce Back is a charity and a painting and decorating social enterprise focussed on training and employing ex-offenders. We start in prison where we interview potential participants and work with them up to release when they come and join us.  We then train and support them to get all the qualifications needed to work on any site and be self-employed, after which we give them paid employment in our painting and decorating enterprise.  We believe fervently that everyone has an ability to change and deserves a second chance.  We also seek to change perception. Thanks to the support of many we have thrived.  We have been able to buy ‘starter kits’ to equip individuals in their work, a van to get our teams to jobs, and even things as simple as oyster cards and phone cards that are needed to support people when they leave prison.  Our objective is to stop re-offending and reduce crime, and we have been successful.  Against the national average of 60% re-offending our rate is only 10%. Please help us to do more.

YTD Raised: £0.00

Cherwell Theatre Company is a creative home for young theatre-makers in Banbury and the surrounding areas. Through active participation in theatre projects, we create opportunities to inspire, train, nurture and develop young performers, directors, stage managers, designers and technicians. We strive to serve our participants and our audiences by producing ambitious, innovative, affordable and accessible theatre for our community. During our thirteen-year history, we have presented:twelve festive productions; three festivals showcasing local young writers, directors, designers and performers; two Theatre in Education productions playing to more than 100,000 local schoolchildren; and a number of street theatre and site-specific works such as ‘A Shakespeare Summer Soiree’ at Broughton Castle. Our alumni have gone on to train at prestigious drama schools including RADA, Mountview, The Central School of Speech & Drama, Italia Conti, Birmingham School of Acting and the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts: many choose to return to work with us, as professionals, post-training. Others have gone on to successful roles in non-arts based jobs. Cherwell Theatre Company is proud to welcome all young voices, regardless of background or experience. We hold no auditions, and as a registered charity with low overheads, are able to keep our fees low.

The Marble Project exists to help those who need it most in Bulgaria. Our aim is simply to improve the quality of life of the children and elderly, both in material ways but also through human contact. We visit the town a throughout the year and once a year around 12 to 15 of our members travel to Bulgaria to try to make a practical difference. They fund all their own travel and accommodation costs and other expenses; it is a point of pride for the Marble Project that administrative costs are as near to zero as it is possible to get them so that the money we raise goes where it should. We help out practically by building shelters for the elderly, painting, running handicraft classes for the orphanages and buying much needed equipment for the care homes and orphanages. We also run a Fun Day for the orphanages and a sports day for the local schools. Please visit our website - www.TheMarbleProject.org - for more information on our projects
