Welcome to Joybells Thank you for visiting the Joybells donation page. All donations large or small are always greatly appreciated – particularly by the Children, who depend on your generosity for their day to day needs About Joybells In 1983, whilst living in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim in Northern India, Joy started to care for small children whose mothers were having to work as labourers and had no possibility, at that time, of caring for their children themselves. When word spread of the work Joy was doing other destitute women starting bringing their babies to Joy. She took these children into her home, fed them, clothed them and began to educate them. This was the beginning of Joybells. Over 20 years Joybells, in Gangtok, grew to become a school for 400 with an orphanage for 50. In 2000 the decision was made for Joy to leave Gangtok, the remoteness of Sikkim making the everyday running of the school vitually impossible. Land was found near the city of Dehradun in the foothills of the Himalayas and the new Joybells was begun. The first of the new buildings has been opened and is home to over 60 children. Work is reaching completion on two of the main buildings that already provide accommodation for the children but will allow for more staff to be accommodated as well as a new medical wing. It has always been the case that children of all faiths have been welcomed by Joybells. Eventually there will be a home for about 200 children which will also be their primary school up to the age of 12. For their secondary education the children will go to other schools in the area. The orphanage will be home for the children throughout their schooling. Joy’s aim is to give the children in her care a Christian home and a really outstanding education. We're a Boys Brigade Company based in Kilsyth, Scotland raising money for the village of Katete in Malawi. For years we've worked with Katete: working with Mary's Meals, we built a kitchen at the local school so each child could get one meal a day in their place of education; following the massive increase in attendance at the school, we worked with Classrooms for Malawi to renovate some of the school's classroom and visited in June 2014 to help with the work. Now we're continuing fundraising to keep helping the school and the village. We hope to be able to pay for the renovation of the church which also serves as 2 classrooms during the week, so the people of Katete have a place both to worship and to learn, before hopefully returning in the summer of 2016 in order to give out the many goods and clothes that have been donated to us for the most vulnerable pupils at the school.
