It works through telling the John Thomson Stroy to help develop the community. It takes particular interest in supporting young people and ensures the memory of John Thomson is kept alive.
The Civic Federation exists both to represent our many members and to campaign for a better Bishop's Stortford: a market town that operates within its own limits to growth, with a thriving market, good schools within the town, employment and training opportunities and a place where we feel safe and can enjoy ourselves, whatever our age or ability. We are NOT simply against development but FOR appropriate development that takes us towards our aims.
Be a part of local history. Sponsor a roof slate, stone column or stained glass window panel and help us complete our new building. Each sponsorship will receive a commemorative certificate – making an ideal gift with a difference or a lasting way to mark a special occasion or event. Built today, like yesteryear, for your tomorrow. St John’s has a thriving congregation, made up of people and families of all ages, and serves many purposes for its residents - from weekly church services, baptisms and weddings to hosting carol services for local schools. To continue growing in the future our new building will provide on-site space for welcoming all the community to church-related activities; provide a space for children to meet on Sunday mornings; provide a rehearsal space for music and much more. Building for the future is a vision not just about bricks and mortar, but also about building a facility that provides space where young and old can meet, grow and socialise. The John Dolman Trust was established to raise funds for capital projects and bursaries associated with the Pocklington School Foundation (which consists of Pocklington and Lyndhurst Schools) including the Quincentenary in 2014. Pocklington School has been on the same site near York since it was founded in 1514 by lawyer and clergyman John Dolman, for whom the Trust is named. The Foundation is a supportive and caring community rooted in the values of truth, courage and trust. Our approach to learning and development is shaped around the spiritual and physical well-being of each child we educate. We nurture each individual’s potential in a culture that encourages successful learning and creative thinking while rewarding initiative and independence. Our aim is to give pupils the support and freedom they need to flourish into balanced, fully-rounded and confident adults who are inspired for life. By making a gift to The John Dolman Trust you will help us to continue to achieve this. Thank you for your support. “Wheels for Martin’s Friends” raises money for the provision of wheelchairs and other mobility equipment for disabled people within the North Hertfordshire, North Bedfordshire and South Cambridgeshire region. It registered as a charity in 1996, is managed by a small committee and six trustees and is based at the “Three Tuns” pub in Guilden Morden, near Royston in Herts. Since the charity was formed, over £300,000 has been raised through local fund raising events, sponsorship and kind donations. The charity has no overheads and all of the money raised goes directly to those in need of help. While some requests are from local residents, many are referrals from local NHS hospitals. Although the NHS provides basic wheelchairs, it cannot provide the very specialist chairs that those with severe disabilities require, some of these chairs costing up to £20,000. Basic NHS wheelchairs are also heavy and cumbersome and Wheels for Martin’s Friends has provided many lightweight chairs which are more easily self-propelled or easier for parents or carers to manage (but even these cost in excess of £1,500). The charity has also provided special bicycles to enable young children to play with their siblings and friends and special sports wheelchairs to enable young athletes to participate in sports such as basketball. Wheels for Martin’s Friends prides itself on responding quickly to people’s needs and maintaining the support and commitment of the local community.
