Our aim is to provide a focus for people with learning disabilities and their families. We provide support, training, work opportunities and recreational activities firmly rooted in the local community. We do not seek to replace or compete with existing services. Instead we work with them to promote partnership and enhance provision. We aim to encourage inclusion of people with learning dificulties in all aspects of community life and thereby offer opportunities that are often available only in larger towns. The cafe in the heart of Ludlow is the hub of our activities, many of which take place at other locations. Working Together which was started in July 2002 is founded on kindness, encouragement and mutual respect. The Vision is to develop regular and meaningful work and training opportunities, a range of regular recreational activities and social opportunities. Why the Tortoise logo? The Tortoises were chosen for our logo since the Chinese consider them sacred because of their innate wisdom and protective instinct. Eastern values also teach us that "slow and steady wins the race".

YTD Raised: £0.00Action for Children in Conflict (AfCiC) works to transform the lives of children affected by extreme poverty, hunger, illness, persecution, abuse, & neglect. Our projects focus on helping some of the most vulnerable children & young people in Thika District, Kenya. The children & families we work with come from backgrounds of abject poverty, family breakdown, abandonment, & abuse. They are often forced to live on the streets, working & begging, in conflict with local residents & the police. Many resort to substance abuse as a means of escaping cold & hunger. We believe that these children have the capacity & desire to transform their lives, & AfCiC operates several programmes designed to help them do so: Outreach Programmes for Vulnerable Children prevent children from ever going to the street & rehabilitate those who are already there. Some projects include school drop out prevention, child sponsorship, microfinance & business assistance, outreach clinics for street children, & after school children’s clubs. A residential Interim Care Centre for street children, carrying out non-formal education, rehabilitation, counselling & family reintegration work. Kenyan Children’s Legal Aid Work provides free legal advice to children & their guardians. School Feeding programmes feed 1000 vulnerable children daily. Holiday clubs Keep 400 vulnerable children away from abuse/exploitation on the streets by providing food & activities during school holidays
