Click on 'Nick's Bike Ride' link on the left for the latest activity! « « « here The John Banner Scholarship Fund is a registered charity that strives for the: “PROVISION OF SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS, FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND PRIZES FOR COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, WITHIN THE EAST MIDLANDS, INTENT ON A CAREER IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY.” It covers Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, and Nottinghamshire. John Banner was a Hotel and Catering lecturer at Southfields College (which is now Leicester College) and a Fellow of what was then the HCIMA. He left his legacy to the East Midlands to support the development and enrichment of students pursuing careers in the hotel and catering industry. The Hospitality Industry accounts for 1 in 14 of all UK jobs i.e. approx 2 million jobs. The public sector austerity measures will impact heavily on students enrolling on Hotel & Catering educational and training programmes in the coming years. Cuts in the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), and Adult Funding and Entitlement will mean that the support of the John Banner Scholarship Fund will become fundamentally important to enable students to complete their studies and fulfil their career ambitions. Here are a few practical examples of ways in which the fund aims to help students, e.g.: Logo designed by www.aeriform.co.uk

The existing playground for our younger children is in need of replacement, and we have a plan in place to provide an outstanding facility that will be enjoyed for years to come. The new area has been designed by Wicksteed Playgrounds, a UK company that has 100 years of experience providing inspirational play spaces that meet the highest safety standards. The new playground will include swings, a roundabout, seesaw, interactive play panels and a dinosaur-themed climbing frame with slide. The equipment will also cater for wheelchair-bound children and sensory areas will help those with autism and learning difficulties. The site of the playground will move next to the village hall, enabling easier wheelchair access and use of our other facilities. The cost of the playground will be around £56,000; to date, we have raised about £49,000. With your support to get us over the line, the playground can become a reality in the first half of 2019. Please get involved with cake sales, sponsored runs and any other ways that you can think of. Follow our Facebook page for regular updates and get in touch with your fundraising ideas. YTD Raised: £0.00

We provide emergency food parcels to people referred to us through over 50 agencies locally.  We also run a More Than Food project in the longer school holidays called 'The Holiday Shack' where we provide activities and a hot meal for the whole family - this is through referrals from The Childrens' Centre.  All our food is donated by the public but we rely on funding and donations to meet our running costs to enable us to provide this service for those in need in our community.  Over 50 volunteers give around 50 hours a week to serve our community through the foodbank. We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
