Like U CIO has been officially founded on the 14th of February 2020 (Reg. No. 1187973), but all of our staff have been volunteering in other charities for a few years before. As we have been friends for a long time, we have decided to get together and start a charity supporting European Migrants in our counties. Worcestershire and Herefordshire both have strong European migrants’ presence – and we are the single European migrants focused charity in a 30-mile radius. Our statutory goal is to tackle racism and anti-social behavior; we want to do this by building relationships, helping everyone solve their problems and making sure they realize that by the end of the day the other person, despite the differences, is just Like U. Our presence in the community is well established and we perceive ourselves to be the bridge between the minority communities we support and the general public. That is why we cooperate heavily with the Food Bank, Fair Share, Community First, Worcestershire Community Foundation, Worcester City Council and Worcestershire County Council.
St Paul’s Pre-school is a community-based charity that provides its children with a wonderful homely environment. The pre-school follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which covers the pre-school and reception years of education and enables our key workers to ensure a seamless transition to the local primary schools. Our provision is based on learning through play, with a balance between child-initiated and adult-led activities. Our highly-regarded staff encourage the children to progress at their own pace, using carefully planned activities, and both inside and outside play, to develop their social skills and confidence. Teaching children how to think, not what to think.
Women and Children First (UK) helps stop mothers and babies from dying. More than 98% of mothers and babies who die during preganacy, childbirth or in the first few days of life, live in the world's poorest countries. They die from conditions that are treatable or prevenatable and which aren't typically life-threatening in the UK. Our simple model of women's self-help groups run in local communities is highly effective in saving the lives of mums and babies.
