Sikh Recovery Network (UK, 1184884) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Sikh Recovery Network is a Peer Led Charity and we a aim to provide a network of recovery services, mainstream and peer led, to help individuals who are struggling to cope with alcohol and drug addiction. We are currently running group meetings and one-to-one sessions and peer mentoring which will all help in personal development. Our Charity addresses the issue of substance misuse, with a particular focus on the Panjabi Sikh community. The unspoken alcohol problem within the British Panjabi Sikh Community has been depicted in a BBC documentary. Although social drinking is somewhat encouraged at weddings and other functions, people tend to to keep quiet when it comes to speaking about alcoholism due to the stigma, and the fear of being ostracised, creating a taboo around the issue. The fear of being judged may result in someone refraining from seeking help. There is a really strong pride and honour for the family name and people don't want anyone to perceive them as having something wrong with them or having any form of weakness.
