Adonai UK (UK, 1136724) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Adonai UK supports the work of Adonai Family Uganda (AFU), a Ugandan NGO based in Namugoga. Their mission is to reach the needy and vulnerable. We coordinate child sponsorship, raise funds for specific projects, and raise awareness of the need in Uganda and the work of AFU. Adonai - Where Love Becomes Action We believe that every child deserves a decent start in life. That's why we support the work of Adonai Child Development Centre - part of AFU. Here children are not only given a good education at Adonai Primary School but are also cared for holistically. Adonai children are looked after in terms of health, food, clothing and pastoral needs. Some of the children need the safety of a secure refuge to stay in either on a permanent or temporary basis. Others just need support so that their extended families can take care of them. All this takes a great deal of work and a wealth of resources. So how can you help? A one-off donation of £5 will buy a mosquito net. A simple but potentially lifesaving piece of equipment. A donation of £5 will buy sheets so that a child can sleep in comfort. A regular donation of £5 per week (£20 per month) will change a child’s life. Sponsorship will mean that they will be included on the Adonai health care and food programmes, have their school resources needs met, and be kept a loving and watchful eye on by Aloysious Luswata and his team. Any amount donated to the food programme, no matter how big or small, will help ensure that more children and their families receive food supplies. Any amount donated to the Health Care programme, no matter how big or small, will help ensure that an adequate supply of medicine can be kept and hospital treatment provided when needed. Would you consider supporting one of the adults who care for these precious children? As the number of children needing care grows, so does the need for adults to care for them. Houseparents and teachers all need salaries. £40 per month would fund a houseparent but any amount paid on a regular basis, or as a one off donation, would help greatly. A vocational project is underway to teach the children valuable farming skills as well as aiding Adonai to become more self-sufficient. We’ve bought land but now need to build accommodation on it for the children to stay in when receiving training; to fund carers to look after them; to employ a farm manager. Any amount as a one-off donation or regular payment will help. AFU is encouraging and supporting micro-finance projects in the local community so that families become self-sufficient. Would you consider helping a project to get started? For more information on any of the above or any other matters relating to our work please email us at [email protected]

The Fergus Maclay Leukaemia Trust (UK, SC031907) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Fergus Maclay Leukaemia Trust was set up in 2001 in memory of Fergus who died in November 2000 at the age of 19. The Trust's main aim has been to explore ways of addressing nutritional issues which are a major concern in the treatment of children and young people with cancer. Nutritional problems are a source of great stress for families. The provision of appropriate nutrition to their child is one of the major contributions they can make in the "high-tech" arena of modern cancer therapy The trustees are currently funding a two year project in conjunction with the University of Edinburgh and doctors in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh. The outcomes of the research will produce consolidated information on many aspects of nutrition. This will give doctors the confidence to provide well defined recommendations on nutrition for those young people undergoing treatment for cancer. It is expected that the outcomes of this first project will open up further aspects on nutrition for cancer patients that will require to be addressed; the trustees will therefore require additional funds to continue this much needed work.

In October 2012 Angus foodbank was launched by Strathmore Christian Fellowship under the umbrella of The Trussell Trust. Every day people in Angus go hungry for reasons ranging from unemployment to redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income or even unexpected illness. We provide a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis. Rising costs of food and fuel combined with static income, high unemployment and changes to benefits are causing more and more people to come to foodbanks for help. Angus foodbank partners with churches and communities throughout the whole of Angus to help and support people in need. Please donate to support our cause. All food given out, isdonated by schools, churches, businesses, individuals, or through supermarket collections. These collections engage the public at supermarkets where they are met by volunteers who offer shoppers a ‘foodbank shopping list’ and ask them to buy an extra item with their shop.At the warehouse, food is sorted by volunteers according to type and ‘best before date’, and then taken to foodbank centres, where it is made up into food parcels for clients.Care professionals such as social workers, Citizens Advice Bureau staff, welfare officers, health visitors, Job Centres amongst others, identify people in crisis and refer them to the foodbank.Clients attend a foodbank centre where they receive three days supply of emergency food. The group has no government funding and the volunteers raise all the funds needed for equipment and running of the group. There are no salaries paid so almost every penny goes towards equipment or the running of the scheme car, with a very minimal amount spent on stationary and fund raising.
