UK Infantile Spasms Trust (UK, 1172167) Browse events

YTD Raised: £4,201.20

Thank you for visiting UKIST on MyDonate. Our aim as a charity is to raise awareness of Infantile Spasms (West Syndrome) and to help and support affected families. Please make a donation to support our cause. Infantile Spasms is a rare form of epilepsy that can have devastating effects on brain development. It is often referred to as 'little seizures, big consequences'. Unless it is recognised and treated early the prognosis for affected children is very poor, but because it is rare it is often misdiagnosed as reflux or startle reflex. The charity was set up by a group of UK parents who found each other through one of the international IS support groups. Prior to 2016 there was no Infantile Spasms support network in the UK. We started as a Facebook group, and found like-minded parents who were passionate about raising awareness of IS and supporting other families. UKIST became a registered charity in March 2017.  Charity No: 1172167 Find out more Website Please click here to visit our website Facebook Please click here to visit our Facebook page

The Busoga Trust. (UK, 288388) Browse events

YTD Raised: £4,196.45

The Busoga Trust is a UK based water, sanitation & hygiene charity. Working mainly in Uganda we have constructed over 2000 safe water sources since 1982 (providing clean, safe drinking water to an estimated 1,000,000+ people) along with providing improved sanitation facilities and hygiene/health education. After air, nothing is so important to the survival of life on Earth as water. Diarrhoeal disease, caused through unsafe water and poor sanitation, is the second largest cause of death amongst children under-5 globally. Furthermore, where it doesnt kill, it severely hampers economic development through lost time in school and employment. In Uganda, according to the WHO, only 64% of the rural population have access to safe water. When you think that 87% of the population lives in rural areas, this means that vast numbers of people are in daily contact with deadly and debilitating diseases. As a service provider, we actually do the work on the ground. We are not a middleman. Therefore donors can rest assured that the money they donate is actually going towards the cost of providing valuable, sustainable health interventions. We may be small, but we work hard to make the most of what resources we have. Your support will make a real difference to rural Uganda. Cheetah Conservation Fund UK (UK, 1079874) Browse events

YTD Raised: £4,186.94

Cheetahs are the most endangered of the big cats in Africa and less than 10,000 remain in the wild. The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) was set up 25 years ago and is now recognized as the world’s leading organisation on the cheetah. The International Research and Education Centre in Namibia is the primary base for all CCF’s global activities, supported by chapters in US, UK, Canada and other countries. CCF has developed a truly inspirational holistic model for cheetah conservation based on the premise that saving the cheetah will save everything else, including humans. The model comprises “Future Farmers of Africa” programme, one part of which is the Livestock Guarding Dog project. This has been so successful that livestock losses have reduced to almost 0% and there is a 2-year waiting list for puppies in Namibia. Dogs have also been sent to South Africa and Tanzania to conserve cheetahs and other big cats. Other parts of the model include education, developing work opportunities for local farmers and communities, restoring habitat, implementing the innovative land-clearing Bushblok fuel project, research and releasing cheetahs back into the wild. This model has proved so successful that cheetah numbers in Namibia have doubled to 3,000. CCF’s vision is to scale-up and roll out this model to other cheetah countries in Africa and beyond. Our call to arms is: “Change the world and save a species” What an extraordinary legacy that would be. Please join us.

Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool Association (UK, 267687) Browse events

YTD Raised: £4,185.41

The Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool Association is a registered charity run by a small group of trustees and a committee of volunteers. Opened in 1979 the building is a unique purpose built hydrotherapy pool specially designed to meet the therapeutic needs of any persons of any age with impairments due to illness, injury, disease and or disability. Our pool measures 13.5 metres by 6 metres, maximum depth 1.5 metres. The pool is maintained at 92 degrees Fahrenheit, with the air temperature balanced to match. Group and high dependency private changing rooms are all connected by an overhead hoist system, taking severely disabled users directly into the pool, enhancing the overall hydrotherapy experience. The pool is used by locally based Special Schools, disabled adult groups, local resource centres and individuals, either registered disabled and or referred to the pool. User’s age range varies from 1 to 90+ and since inception in excess of one million user sessions have been recorded, travelling to the pool from Swindon, throughout Wiltshire and surrounding counties to use the facilities. The Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool has helped users suffering from virtually any disability you can think of including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, arthritis, blindness, brain damage and asthma. Other users have included amputees, jockeys recovering from injury, people with severe back pain and many recovering from operations. We need your help. As a privately run registered charity we rely on fundraising and sponsorship to meet our increasing operating costs against pool income received. In addition, August 2011 we now have to raise £200,000 for roof and ventilation repairs. Come and witness the Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool experience to see the fantastic work undertaken, the joy on the faces of the disabled children who use the pool and the beneficial hydrotherapy water treatment provided to all users.

Beep Fund Limited (UK, 1113396) Browse events

YTD Raised: £4,181.00

The BEEP Fund was set up in April 1994 as an addition to the existing Penrith and District Accident Scheme. This Scheme has provided life saving equipment for local doctors in the Upper Eden area of Cumbria, including Penrith, Kirkoswald, High Hesket, Temple Sowerby, Kirkby Stephen, Shap, Keswick and Caldbeck, for over 20 years, enabling them to attend accidents and collapses in the area. We felt there was a need to take this a step further in and around Penrith. We needed to buy more sophisticated equipment and develop a dedicated vehicle (the Immediate Response Vehicle) which was capable of carrying this equipment to where it was needed. We now have these facilities in Penrith and, seven doctors are now trained and use the vehicle, it attends any road traffic accident in the Penrith area as well as most other medical emergencies.
