Street Kids International:Catalyst for Better Lives Millions of young people globally are forced by circumstanceto live and work on the street. Street Kids International UK provides these youth with skill development opportunities that can unlock their potential and help them to build a better future. We do this by training local youth workers to deliver business training to youth in their own communities and languages; ensuring that content is culturally appropriate and contextually relevant. This training helps street youth to start and expand small businesses, to start saving money and to work towards a better lives for themselves and their families. Many young people who receive our training are motivated to return to education, get a job, reunite with estranged families, or to share what they've learnt with others. By drawing upon the resilience, skills and abilities of street youth, we make a real difference to the future of some of the world’s more vulnerable young people. Street Kids International is a charity registered in the UK, Canada and the USA. We have 25 years’ experience supporting marginalised youth in over 60 countries.

Islay and Jura Community Enterprises Limited (UK, SC015815) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

A remarkable story of a social enterprise development & achievement against all odds............... Over 30 years ago, concerned parents, living surrounded by water felt that their children had a right to be taught to swim. Campaigning and fundraising for a swimming pool began, and by 1991 £1 million had been raised by the community enabling their “dream pool” to be built. The conversion of a redundant Morrison Bowmore whisky bond on the romantic Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland resulted in The Mactaggart Leisure Centre being born, comprising of a swim pool, sauna, gym, launderette, hairdressers & mutli purpose room. 21 years later the Mactaggart Leisure Centre is an award winning establishment, continuing to provide all that’s best in Health, Leisure, Social Recreation & Education for everyone on the Isles of Islay and Jura. Through training, volunteering & employment we provide a wide range of activities & services for all age groups in response to community demand. As a stand alone enterprise the Mactaggart Leisure Centre relies on grants, private trusts, foundations & general donations for its continued existence. Please donate as much as you can to a very deserving cause.

Loan Smart (UK, 1176832) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Loan Smart is a new registered charity that has been established to help tackle the scourge of illegal money lending in the UK. The latest statistics estimate that 310,000 individuals nationally are borrowing from loan sharks, meaning that illegal money-lending is a significant problem in our communities. Data from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) shows that 36% of consumer credit enquiry calls to its Consumer Credit Centre involve status and regulation such as checking on a firm’s authorisation status. In addition, research conducted by the Illegal Money Lending Teams (IMLTs) indicates that a high percentage of people going to a loan shark did not realise it was illegal. There is therefore an opportunity to raise awareness of the existence of illegal money-lending.
