Festival Fringe Society Ltd (UK, SC002995) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest open-access arts festival in the world. It started in 1947 when eight theatre groups decided to perform in Edinburgh during the inaugural Edinburgh International Festival, despite not having received an invitation to participate. Who could have guessed what it would lead to? Once it became clear that the Fringe was here to stay, the Festival Fringe Society was formed to support the incredible collective of performances that takes over Edinburgh in August. The policy that remains at the core of our festival is that anyone can take part without being subject to artistic vetting or selection. To this day we are proud to include in our programme anyone with a story to tell and a venue willing to host them. Today, the Festival Fringe Society’s mission is to advise, support and encourage everyone taking part in the Fringe, to provide comprehensive information and ticketing services for participants and the public and to continue to raise the profile and promote the entire Edinburgh Festival Fringe throughout the world. Over the 64 years since the Fringe started it has nurtured incredible talent like Emma Thompson, Derek Jacobi, Graham Norton and Eddie Izzard. We want to continue to nurture and discover new international talent across the whole spectrum of the arts. But we need your support to ensure that Edinburgh continues to host the greatest show on earth each August. If you would like to help ensure the future of the Fringe, you can support the Festival Fringe Society by giving a donation.

Whiteley Village provides almshouse accomodation for older people of limited means. Founded over 100 years ago by the legacy of William Whiteley, the Village has more than 250 cottages, along with a shop & post office, bar/club and village hall, bowling green, 9-hole golf course and putting green, two churches, allotments and fishing lake. There is a wide range of social and activity clubs (from Art to Whist), a bus service, and outings arranged on a regular basis. The majority of the Villagers live independent lives, as singles or couples, in the magnificent Grade II listed cottages but the Whiteley Homes Trust also provides a Welfare Service to all Villagers. The Village also has a Care Centre and an Extra-Care Facility (both of which have been rated 'Excellent' by the CQC) and can provide domiciliary care. The Cottages now need modernisation to meet today's living standards. We have already spent c. £28m, improving six of the eight sections: we need to raise £6m more to complete the work. Please be generous in your support and help us to provide for the next generation of older people who cannot afford their own homes. Thank you.
