Better Life: Africa is a charity that exists to offer a better life to the people it reaches. Working in and amongst the poorest children in the Shanzu district of Africa, we are providing education and practical help. The charity runs a primary school in Mombasa in Kenya. There are over 150 children at the school, many from the poorest families in the area. The current school has 4 permanent classrooms and 5 temporary classrooms. We have to move out from the temporary buildings in October 2013. We have bought an ideal piece of land further into the Bush still within walking distance of the school. We have dug the bore hole and we have had plans approved and surveyed. The total cost of the new school is around £70,000. We are hoping that the building materials donated will bring the cost down. The homes then were in serious need of help on account of the economic decline and high inflation that had completely eroded their financial reserves. Today we have had to divert almost all our resources to supplying food and fuel to safeguard the very lives of the elderly of all races living in residential homes and many still living at home often alone.. The local currency is now worthless removing any buying power from all local pensions, and although food is now available, it is priced in US$'s - a currency out of reach to most pensioners.
