"Trust Maria provides grants of facilities and equipment to the hospices in Suffolk. We help to enhance the level of care that their patients receive and help to provide more advanced equipment. Help Trust Maria to help the hospices." www.trustmaria.org.uk Facebook /trustmariaeastanglia Twitter @trustmaria What is our Story? We are an unincorporated association charity set up in the loving memory of Maria Mcsloy. Maria was rushed into hospital at the end of February 2010 suffering from severe abdominal pain and it was soon discovered that she had a melon sized tumour growing inside her. Over the next few days infections had set in and she was losing weight at a dramatic rate, it seemed that whatever the doctors tried nothing could bring these infections under control and it seemed that there was little hope she would survive. After several attempts with different antibiotics her temperature dropped which enabled the surgical team to perform the operation she needed to save her life, the consultant surgeon and his team gave up their own time to be at the hospital and perform the six-seven hour operation. During this time they removed a large tumour, gave her a full hysterectomy, took part of her colon away and scraped her stomach & bladder clean. Because of this wonderful dedication they certainly did save Maria’s life and therefore started her road to recovery. All of this happened about one month before “Hollie Footer” (Maria’s Eldest Daughter) was due to get married over in Cyprus and Maria unfortunately had to inform her daughter that she was not able to join her on the biggest day of her life. With all the upset that the last few weeks had brought Maria set about Plan B which was to send her best friend in her place to keep an eye on all the children and keep their spirits held high. When the hospital informed Maria that she was unable to go she made sure that she was going to be able to view the big day via Skype and wish them all well, so everyone was as happy as they could be. 2 Weeks prior to the actual wedding day Maria had her first consultation at the chemotherapy unit. She began to inform the consultant about the unfortunate news of missing her eldest daughters wedding. The consultant told Maria that if she wanted to go she could, as long as she had an injection every day to prevent her blood from clotting. With Maria being the fighter she was, she and Husband Peter set about booking flights for them to attend the wedding. Maria and Peter managed to keep all of this secret and surprised Hollie on the morning of her wedding by knocking on her hotel room door, little did Hollie know they had been in the same hotel since the day before and had been watching the family from their room. “What a wonderful day and what a lift for Maria”. What Maria put herself through and what Maria endured to make this journey and carry it through to the end shows what an inspirational, determined, brave beautiful lady she was. Maria will always be remembered for being the lady who was beautiful inside and out with the most lovely eyes, infectious laugh and smile, who only saw the good in all things. God bless you Sweetheart, you was the most beautiful Wife, Mum and Grandmother. She truly was and still is an inspirational woman who will never be forgotten. Now it comes to us all to raise as much as we can in her memory and give back the love and generosity she gave us all.

Southampton Hospital Radio have have been broadcasting to the patients of Southampton continuously since October 1952. Affiliated to the Hospital Broadcasting Association and Serving the Southampton General and Princess Anne Hospitals, we provide patient entertainment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All of the members of the Southampton Hospital Broadcasting Association (SHBA) were proud to be awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service on the 2nd June 2012. It was football that started it all in 1952. Since then, we have covered every home match since 1952. The first live transmissions were from a damp smelly former wine cellar under the Toc H building at the top of The Avenue. A complete programme service came out of there, including newscasts, childrens programmes and outside broadcast coverage of the Carnival. The regular request programmes flourished and a record library of 78s and 45s started. In August 1971, we moved above ground to a two studio building, but 7 years later we had to move again. We were granted a 21 year lease on a piece of land. More serious fundraising was again required to build the studio complex, opened in 1980.Just ten years later, Tesco wanted our piece of land to use as the entrance for their new store. This led to them building and fitting out a new Studio Centre, and we started broadcasting on 12th December 1993.Our last show at this site was on the 13th November 2015, before we moved seamlessly to our new home at Normand House, Tremona Road and without a break in transmission started our next chapter. About St. Paul’s Withington St Paul's (Church of England) is a friendly, inclusive worshipping community where we can explore our faith, experience God's love and find a sense of belonging. Located in the centre of Withington in South Manchester, St. Paul’s draws members both from the parish and from further afield and includes people of all ages and from a range of backgrounds. We are active in the local community with a programme of events for people of all ages, including concerts, children’s activities, community dinners, and we host clubs, societies, and charitable organisations in our parish hall. Gisela and Anne’s Sabbatical Pilgrimage: In May, I will be setting out from the St Paul’s to Holy Island (Lindisfarne), along the Pennine Way and the St. Cuthbert’s Way. I’ll be walking with the Revd Anne Pilkington, our friend from Christ Church, West Didsbury. This is a beautiful route, but a tough one. Over the course of 25 days, we’ll climb over 12,000 metres (while Mount Everest is a mere 8,848 meters high). The route covers: 320 miles, 249 stiles, 204 bridges, 287 gates, plus avoiding assorted wildlife. The final stretch involves a barefoot pilgrimage across the tidal causeway off the coast of Northumberland to reach Holy Island. We’ve been training for this over the last few months, spending our weekends out in the cold, rain (and sometimes sun), racking up the miles, traversing bogs and honing our compass reading skills. We have decided to do this as a sponsored walk. I will be raising money for the refurbishment of our kitchen in the parish Hall, so we can get it ready for our new project with L’Arche. The project will involve people with and without learning disabilities working together to prepare and serve meals, a wonderful way to bring people together and build community. Money donated through this online link will be split equally between St Paul's and L'Arche Manchester. The Revd Gisela Raines
